My 18 year old son loves to fly fish and we want to take a family trip this summer somewhere he can fish to celebrate his graduation. We also have 2 teenage daughters that will be with us so I'd like to find a destination where they also have stuff to do. I've looked at Jackson WY, Montana, and even Banff, but feeling a bit overwhelmed with the options. Would love any suggestions or ideas!

In the past few years, I've taken my now 18 year old son fly fishing in Baffin Bay, Colorado, Alaska, and Belize. All were great trips. I would advise you to hire a local guide if you've never fished a location before (even if he is a great fly fisherman).

A few questions: What is your budget? Are you also looking for a fishing lodge? What will your daughters do while you are fishing?

Perhaps consider an off-season skiing community in Colorado for a home base.

Finally, you may want to cross post this on the Outdoors Board.

For trout fishing, I feel that the freestone streams of western Montana and NW Wyoming (Yellowstone) are kind of the pinnacle of trout fishing in America. I've fished much of the Rockies, and this is what I would recommend. Specifically there are places in and around Yellowstone that would make for highly memorable experiences, such as the hike into the meadow stream section at Slough Creek, fishing the Lamar Valley (surrounded by bison), and floating the Yellowstone through Paradise Valley. I know this area well and can make recommendations if you decide to go that route.

Bend to fish the Deschutes. Bonus fish the Metolious near Camp Sherman ( https://www.campshermanstore.com/fly-shop ). Plenty of other stuff for the daughters.

I'm a fly fishing guide on the Laguna Madre and own a house on ambergris caye, Belize (spend about 8 weeks a year down here). I'm partial to both .

DM if either locale interests you and I can help answer questions that you have.

I had an amazing time fishing Nelsons Spring creek south of Livingston, MT. We also floated the Madison out of Ennis. While it was a good day, I wouldn't call it special. I would go back to Nelsons Creek in a heartbeat. Jacquie Nelson is one of the best guides I have ever had and she set a new standard.

I would suggest the Middle Provo River near Park Cities UT. It is an easy drove from Salt Lake. The river was great for big Brown trout when my son and I fished it a few years ago. And the Park Cities area has a lot to offer for families with teenagers.
