Going to Europe soon. First trip. Need to know what kind of shoes y'all recommend. Thinking we will be walking 8 to 15 miles per day.

There can be a lot of nasty weather particularly in N Europe. All birds are great and easy to pack but I have gone back to all leather, polished to seal shoes like Keens or Rockports.

Are you walking through 5 towns per day?
Also, for how many days?
In any case, sounds like I'd go with hiking boots, good hiking socks and I'd break them in before you go.
I've got a pair of Oboz I got at REI on sale about 5 years ago and they've been fantastic.

15 miles per day would be an insane amount of steps
I've done that in Dublin & Belfast. I walk at least 6 miles a day, so it wasn't anything that killed me.
Rockports
We like to walk to places, and the distance is accurate. I have already mapped put a lot of it.
I also scotch guard jackets and some clothing items. Last year at this time in Strasbourg it really helped.

8-15 miles (13-24 kms) is really far in old world Europe. For example, the country of Luxembourg is only 30 miles wide by 50 miles high.
Are we talking about ancient city center cobblestone streets, modern paved sidewalks or rural trails?
Are you already walking this much now? If so, what are you wearing when you do that?

just back from London and Paris. Our top day was 20k steps. We probably averaged 10-12k steps per day.
I wore Blundstones all trip but wished a couple of times I had dark sneakers (especially the 20k day). It was wet and cold every day there. Never saw the sun.
The saving grace for me was always having a wool scarf and always having some sort of warm hat (I alternated between a wool fedora and a peaky F'N blinders cap)
If you are travelling to big cities then download the Citymapper app - really good way to determine what is faster - walk, taxi, bus, train to any destination.

Holy geeze. You are going to spend the whole trip walking to places. Mix in a taxi, if for nothing else, just to save time.
I have some Merrils low top hikingish boots that I love. They look nice enough, but also water resistant, comfortable and light.

I always use a good pair of waterproof hiking boots with thick socks when going to a destination where I know I'll be walking / outdoors a lot, especially in the colder months where weather can be unpredictable.
I averaged 20 to 30k steps a day on a Netherlands - Belgium trip last year. You can experience much more of a city if you walk it instead of taking public transport.
Not everyone can or will do that, but 8-15 miles isn't insane.
Comfortable tennis shoes is the answer if you're walking that much even though they make it obvious you're American.

For summer, be sure to wear a screen printed graphic t-shirt. Maybe even Bucees.
Everyone in London wears tennis shoes. If you want to stand out as an American wear something besides jeans or black pants. Khakis is a sure fire American look.

I got Hokas for my Spain trip. They were great. I much preferred them over Brooks.
When I did it before I had some flatter tennis shoes and my feet would be dying after about 8k steps. But they were more stylish.

On is the brand, Cloud is one of their models.
Just don't wear white tennis shoes or short pants. I wear black slacks and black dress shoes always no matter how much walking I will do. But that is me. I like to blend in. Next summer will be my 25th time in Europe so this does come from a little of experience.tu ag said:

I wear Allbirds as my travel shoes, but my Euro trips tend to be confined to coastal areas in spring or summer. If we're talking Vienna or Bratislava in January I'd consider a comfortable pair of boots.
