AA's Twitter team is good for operational stuff while it's happening but what you're really looking for is the AAdvantage customer service form: https://www.aa.com/contact/forms?topic=#/

This starts a paper trail should you need to escalate to a DOT complaint.

Hated airlines of the day-AA. Flights from NYC to San Antonio canceled for 4 days, so driving the 1800 miles to get home quicker than flying. Our 5 person party flights out of JFK, West Plains/Westchester, Hartford were all canceled.

Geez, that's awful. Having just driven home from New Hampshire, I feel your pain. That's a rough trip.

Can you imagine any other industry being this consistently unreliable, and people just accepting it? The airlines really have no incentive to improve because we're all essentially a captive audience, particularly if you live in a hub city. I live in DFW and it's just not logistically feasible for me to choose a competitor over AA 90% of the time. So frustrating.

It's disturbing how far US air travel has fallen. Pretty sure we haven't hit rock bottom yet...

WTF…cancelled for 4 days?!?

I feel your pain. We had to make that drive from NYC to The Woodlands when we got caught up in the SW Christmas meltdown.

To the last poster's point, my BF and I had this same convo at the airport - they have absolutely no incentive to improve, and we suck it up because they already have our money locked up. And they don't even have any incentive to give refunds when they screw up!

If I'm flying AA out of IAH, it's because there is no other option. At least SW was giving United some competition out of IAH, but now that option is gone, too.

We were talking that our best option is probably to avoid any flights with a connection, even if it means driving several hours to our final destination. That won't eliminate all the problems, but it should help.

Were there no other airlines flying to San Antonio? Seems like with a cancellation that long you could have forced AA to put you on another airline to get you there.

Bad weather in NYC takes forever to unravel.

surprised there was nothing out of nearby airports. hope you can at least make a fun roadtrip out of it.

all of the nearby airports did not have availability for 5 people in our party. AA wait time to chat with them on the phone was 2+ hours consistently. Our party size and final destination that wasn't a big hub made it tough. Fortunately, we only had to drive 600 miles to Charlotte, and got on a direct flight, before Hurricane Debby arrived.

Jetblue canceled our flight. So then we switched to AA where our flights kept getting canceled as well. It was a nightmare, especially with a 2 year old in tow.

Yeah, my wife's American flight from MIA to IAH kept getting pushed back last week.

Originally around 10p, got pushed all the way to 1a. They wouldn't just cancel the thing.

Eventually they "delayed" it to 7:30a. She requested a hotel and they tried to tell her they didn't have to give her one (and that it wouldn't be worth her time). I made her raise hell and they eventually got her in some ****ty DoubleTree.

Then the 7:30 got delayed until 9:30. They didn't take off for over an hour because the Second was late.

What a mess.

I'll add to this party. Flying back from DCA to XNA tonight. Flight was supposed to leave at 7:50pm and we're not taking off until 11:15pm. Not landing until 1am CDT. All because of a delayed flight out of Knoxville to DCA. Just insane.

Update to the above. The plane landed from Knoxville and has mechanical issues with a 1am departure now. Have to laugh so I don't go postal at how asinine AA's logistics are.

Hope you don't get bumped to tomorrow but I would prepare for that.

So annoying

We had a 1 am boarding and prob 130 am departure from CLT. Landed at IAH at 3 am, didn't get home until 4 am. Absolutely miserable.

When we finally boarded after a 6 hour delay, the flight attendants were saying "Good morning!". I looked at one FA and told him "good morning" really was not necessary.

Flight was delayed until 9:30am. I demanded a hotel voucher and meal vouchers for my wife and I. They obliged thankfully. The worst part of this entire evening was the gate agent who did "vibes" checks every 15-20 minutes from 10pm onward. She never provided a substantial update. When she left at 12:30am and said "Do y'all have high hopes getting in the air?" I blew a casket and said "I have high hopes you're going home."

You'd be shocked at how little information they receive from the airline sometimes.

This I believe. The crew that flew us had been waiting at the airport since 4 pm. They didn't know anything. The only thing that made us feel better after talking to them was that we knew they wouldn't/couldn't time out because they hadn't been on the clock.

What that agent said was absolutely sh/tty, though, and it should be unnacceptable. You do not say something like that to people who stand around waiting for a 1 am departure. That kind of attitude is a big reason people are so angry at the airlines right now.

My turn. Today it's United. Direct from Anchorage to IAH tonight. At first it was delayed by 3 hours due to forecasted severe weather. However, all of the alternatives were available.

I was driving back from Cooper Landing, cell service is spotty. Now my wife and have been rebooked on a flight that connects in Denver tomorrow. 5+ hour layover in IAD. I'll never get home to get my dog from the kennel.

I have been on hold with the Platinum desk for 25+ minutes. So much for "status."

**** US air travel.

ETA - there's no weather issue. It's an insult to use that as an excuse.
