Looking for basic transportation for 2 people. We have used USA in the past and they aren't bad but seeing if there is a better company out there for a 20 min drive.

We use CARM and always have good results. Tried using another company last week as part of a group we were with and were disappointed.

I usually book with Amstar depending on the resort. I've also used Kalido and Royal Transfers.

We've used Canada Transfers more than a dozen times. Never an issue and like having the preordered drinks and snacks onboard

When? I can probs pick you up and drop you off. We live in Tulum and are in PDC and Cancun a lot for work.

Those transfers are crazy expensive from a locals perspective. We pay $425 pesos one way from ASUR to Centro in PDC. The transfers usually cost over $2,000.

As a travel advisor I've used USA transfer for 15+ years. They are consistent, and on time. I'm pretty loyal to them for my clients and myself.

Another vote for USA Transfers. I really like Kalido but they are booked up often. If you don't want private, Amstar has shared but you will make a few stops (and its not always cheaper). I've also used Canada, Happy Shuttle. They all will price within a few bucks of each other usually.

Very kind but no need. Is a taxi service at the airport any cheaper and if so, which one do you like?

I have used USA in the past and they have been good.

CARM is excellent. Plus you can pre pay for road beers.

Didi, Cabify, and TariTaxi are all super safe. They keep a record of the taxi number that picked you up etc so the potential for having a shady experience is pretty low since everything is recorded. Not sure what they charge non-locals, but the local rate is about 1/4 or 1/3 of the ASUR transports. The ASUR transports and Rental Cars are really designed to racket the American tourists.

Where they really get you in the rental car is the Collision, TPL, and other extra insurance they charge. They don't tell you that you only legally need collision coverage in MX which is usually included in the price of the rental. Then, instead of getting their insurance, either using a US card that provides insurance, or doubling up and buying a Mexico rental pooicy online through progressive geico etc for the VIN of the car after you rent it. For instance, we rent our car by the month here. It's $1,200 for the complete coverage w zero deductible from Enterprise. However my United card provides insurance so I don't need there's. If I REALLY wanted to cover my ass, I could buy a policy through progressive for $360 for the month that provides the same coverage as the counter rate that was $1,200.

Our cost for an SUV for a month was just over the price of USA transfers for round trip.

If anyone coming to visit would like more info, feel free to PM me.

We were there recently and just used a taxi that the hotel called for us. I wouldn't hail one on the street but it was not very expensive and felt perfectly safe to me.

Go to the blue taxi stands. The official taxis have a blue number attached to them. Everything is regulated by which zones you travel between. Don't hail a random cab. All of the apps I provided only send registered taxis/agents.

Yes, I trusted the hotels we used to summon them to follow these kinds of guidelines.

We didn't end up in the headlines and it cost less than half a pre-arranged transfer, so I'm good.

Just used CARM this weekend, communication was extremely clear throughout and they were early for pick-up. On the way out I was in an older van (still comfortable) but back to airport was in a brand new Mercedes van. Prices were slightly cheaper than USA Transfers.

Murmurings around here locally are that some of the large transport companies are now also moving weight since it's an easy cover through check points.

Rumor has always been that these transport companies along w the tourist zone hotels and night clubs were owned/operated by the cartels to help launder money. Locally, Rosa Negra etc are all rumored to have links to organized crime. IIRC, back in Feb there were like 5 tourists killed in a private shuttle in Cancun that you never heard about in the US. They suspected it was a loaded car that was high jacked by a rival cartel / gang. Then it happened again in March and again in April. Mostly centered around Cancun.

Now, usually I'd call BS on those kinda stories, but the longer we're here the more you hear about these locally. Also, I never seen check points setup and as heavy of an army presence in Tulum as I've seen the last week. Yesterday, on Tulum Beach between Ave Coba and Kukulkn they had 3 check points setup with EVERY private transport operated stopped including the Mata Vans. Then we went to PDC for dinner and went through another 2 not including the normal check points where they had even more pulled over. Def feels like they are looking for something / someone and odd that they were focused on the private transports while letting locals go through without even looking.

Guess the moral of the story is that when you're down here you don't really ever know.

Do you own a transport company, or is this just something you do on the side for extra money? If you own a company, what is the name? You can PM me if you prefer.

Scary stuff for sure.

I used USA transfers last week to go to PDC like we have in the past. But I am getting tired of them wanting to pick up earlier and earlier. Don't think I'll be booking round trips anymore.

Probably snag a cab for the return trips to the airport from now on.

You can always contact them to change the pickup time. I do for my clients when it's ridiculous. They just are trying to cover their butts if the lines are long at the airport.
