Options out of Florida will certainly have better ports than what you can get out of Galveston.
Carnival has a brand new ship coming later this year (Jubilee) in Galveston. Royal Caribbean will be bringing in Harmony of the Seas. I have groups on both of those for spring break.
Going out of Florida you will have the Bahamas and each cruise line has their own private island that they usually visit. To get to the Bahamas out of Galveston you have to do an 8 day.
I got off the Dream 8 day yesterday to Key West and 3 stops in the Bahamas. I doubt we go out of Galveston again on Spring Break. It was full with everyone on Spring Break. Lots of teenagers running the ship all the time with no supervision.
They did have a pretty good brawl at the Lido Pool between two families. They kicked 11 of them off the ship in Freeport and let them find their own way home, so that was nice.
We've cruised out of Florida on Spring Break and it was a way better clientele(not everyone is spring breakers) and they go better ports. I would definitely recommend going out of Florida since flights aren't an issue.
Disney is real expensive and doesn't have casinos, so I'm out on that one.
