Am going to Jackson area for two weeks, work related. Any recommendations on a hotel. Heard there are some some very nice old hotels in downtown Jackson, but crime is rampant.

I prefer staying in Ridgeland. There is a nice Embassy Suites and other properties. Plenty of nice restaurants and a nice outside mall. Safe area.

Stay in Madison. Safety and lots of options for food, etc.

Flowood/Brandon area is ok if you'll be on that side of town.

Avoid any place on 220 or West side town south of County Line.

Where will you be working?

I did some projects there a decade ago. Seemed like we stayed in Pearl.

Pearl had lots of development 15+ years ago: Bass Pro, Braves Park, etc. at the intersection of US49 and I20. Still an ok area, but most recent upscale development has been in the Madison/Gluckstadt area.

For Food:

Walker's
Brent's Drugs
Kiefer's
Sal & Mookies
CHAR
Half Shell Oyster House
Berry's Seafood in Florence
The restaurant at the Ag Museum is good too. Just ate there today.

I'll post more as I think of them.

Stayed in Flowood area recently. It seemed good. Not very far from 55 or 20, and close to the airport if that matters. But definitely not worth commuting to/from if your work is somewhere else. I'd probably just stay in the closest to work "nice" area.

Agree with these.

Madison/Ridgeland/Flowood/Brandon/Pearl is like any generic suburbia so if that appeals to you, you'll be fine. Jackson has some really awful rundown areas as well but you'll be fine staying in any of these areas. Madison/Ridgeland probably more "upscale" than other areas but...I mean this with all due respect...MS as a whole is pretty awful.

With all due respect, lots of folks from lots of places would say the same about where you live, wherever that is.

Only safe places to stay in downtown are the Radisson, Westin or the king edward (Hilton Garden Inn). Don't stay at any place near the coliseum.

As mentioned, Ridgeland is a nice area. I usually stay at the Hyatt Place up there. It's part of a larger outdoor retail/dining area.
