I am a fan. It is not for everyone, but if you don't have a good time there, that is on you. Just bumming around with no real plans or schedule, bumping into small interesting bars, restaurants and shops. Stop and have a beer and some conch whenever you feel like a sit in the shade. You can get in the key west vibe real quick and it is good.
Pretty much exactly this.
September will be hot. Absolutely rent bicycles to get around. You make your own a/c, it is super easy quickly move around, and its just damn relaxing cruising along the neighborhoods.
When we go we like to rent a place w/a private pool. Then during the worst heat of the day float around w/a beverage in hand.
If you're there on Sunday I recommend drag-queen bingo at 801 Bourbon Bar. Yes it is a gay bar but DQ bingo is freaking hilarious and an absolute blast. The bingo is upstairs, which is a nicer looking bar than what you see downstairs.
Bike, quick bite to eat, drink a beverage, check out a store, wash rinse and repeat.
There are also some fun museums like the Shipwreck museum and Ernest Hemingway's house. There are a lot more than those two, that's just an example.
Staff - take out the trash.
