Our timetable for going to visit just got moved up by three weeks due to school camp being created during the timewe were planning on going

My son (12yrs) and I were planning on going first of August now are leaving Tuesday

Here are some things we are planning but wanted some recs if possible...research was being done slowly thinking i had more time

We have planned
Hooks baseball game, (wednesday)
USS Lexington tour,
Hurricane Alley (he loves water parks and we have a rule to try most of them if it works) Tuesday evening

also plan for potential
Half day surf camp
parasailing
Jet skiing
and beach time

Which are the best businesses/beach for the above?

Snoopy's is on the list to eat but looking for other recs as well for meals

Kid is basic on food for most part

Port Aransas Rockport etc also can be options because we have transportation

Hotel is pending but cheap cheerful and centralally located works best as we dont expect lots of time in actual hotel

I grew up in corpus. A couple restaurants I enjoy going to on my trips back are snoopys (as mentioned), kikos, surf side sand which shop, and black diamond. Water street/executive surf club downtown are also good options. If you go to port a, my family (lives on the island in corpus) love La playa and go all the time.

Another thing to do would be the Texas state aquarium. Really solid aquarium, imo.

Edit: been a few years since I've been to kikos and the reviews look subpar. May wait for a local who's been recently to comment haha

Check out bird island basin for the parasailing and jet skiing. Then you can go to malaquite or national seashore for beach time all in the park.

As far as food goes on the island with a teenager you can try scuttlebutts on the island which has a big menu or padre island burger company. if you want something fancier rock and rolls sushi or island time sushi are both great. Venetian hot plate out in Port A is a nicer restaurant.
For Mexican La Playa in Port A

Personally I'd do aquarium over Lexington but not sure how much you guys are into military history and all that.

Days you're doing north Beach/hooks stuff you can Catch lunch downtown at Elizabeth's in the Art Museum for great views. dinner at Thai Spice or Water Street for nicer restaurants. Republic of Texas is probably the fanciest one downtown and has great views but the dinner takes forever and is pricey. Brewster street (right by Whataburger field) or surf club for more casual in the area.

Thanks for the Recs.

I will look up a few of these.

We are thinking of getting a family pass for USS Lexington as might do a weekend in October and also February also

The membership allows for a overnight I think which is what he is wanting to do along with next Fourth of July we could see the fireworks from the carrier deck which was our original plan that got moved to early Aug that just got changed last few days

The membership also gives a lot of recripocal for things in February including aquarium so may wait for that

We used to stay at the Days Inn, right next to the Omni. It was dated, but the views were great, the location is great, and it was cheap. Not sure your budget, but now you have this info.

Maybe take a day down in port A. Rent a golf cart and drive around to the beach.

We just ate at Elizabeth's last week and it was damn good. However, it's fancy and I'm not sure your teenager will appreciate that. Flip side...it has incredible views and while we were there we watched a US Navy ship slide right by that was larger than the Lexington by a good bit.

Get the pepedew appetizer.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

We have a great list of things to do and places to eat and will play it by ear on some things. Beach time can be anytime so when we make reservations for food and or activities we will work other things around

We leave tomorrow morning and will hit up the USS Lexington and water park day one along with Snoopys.

Day two either parasailing or surf camp in morning, beach in afternoon and Hooks game at night

Day three we will do the one we didn't do on day two and maybe jet ski little more beach and eating before heading back to CS later that evening.

Any last minute suggestions are welcome.

I think Padre Island Burger is a must based upon what he likes. So we will fit it in.

Seems like you're going back and forth between the island and downtown area quite a bit which seems a chore. Why not do PIBC and Snoopys when you do a beach day, and USS lex the day you're doing the hooks. just my opinion.

Padre Island Burger is good. You might also look at Angry Marlin if you're on N Padre Island.

FWIW, go down to the Access Road right before the horse barn to get on the beach. Takes you south of Bob Hall Pier (which is in the process of being torn down right now).
