Headed to Mex to beach and eat and drink.

Want to travel with some pesos to have cash for cabs, but don't want 4 days worth of money on me. Pref to picking up cash daily and not using ATM.

Is Remitly the go to? Anyone with recent experience that can share?

Is there a reason you wouldn't just use american dollars? I have never once gotten pesos in Mexico. I use my credit card when I can, and just cash for the rest.

I've never heard of Remitly so I am no help there.

Going to a spot where it's Pesos only just about everywhere, from what I've been told.

Some places take American CC, but fees suck.

Most cabs will take small USD ($1 and $5) as tips, but paying for meals and bar tabs = pesos.

Looks like PayPals XOOM is the other option to Remitly

I order from my bank and the cash arrives to the house 2-3 days later.

Having 3-4 days of cash on you in Mexico sounds way less risky than frequenting a known cash pickup point (I think that's what you're suggesting) where you can be followed, etc.

To your point, I just spend five days in Mexico and didn't use any Pesos, only American dollars. To me, it seems the Mexican Nationals have no issue with Greenbacks. I just made sure I used 20 pesos to the dollar.

Living here in Mexico, we only use pesos. We have used Paypal Xoom to wire our employees their weekly paycheck when we are away traveling, but you would still have to go a bank to pick up your cash. The embassy reiterates caution with using ATMs, so it seems like the simplest way would be to get cash Stateside, or go to to the ATM in the secured area of the airport after you go through customs.

We order a few hundred dollars worth of pesos before we go and just use ATMs (both in CDMX and Huatulco) when we get there. I've never understood why people insist on using USD in countries that have their own currency. Sure, places like Cancun, USD are accepted but it is still a hassle to get them exchanged. Are pesos readily accepted in Vegas, Disney, or other major tourist areas?

We were in Mexico City in December. I got pesos from a local Wells Fargo branch before we left. You used to just be able to walk into some of them and they had currency, but now they want you to order it ahead of time. Luckily, somebody had exchanged some pesos the day before. It was only like $150 USD worth, which was actually plenty. If you have a credit card with no foreign transaction fees, that is the way to go. Uber is also big in Mexico City...idk about the beach areas. You can probably check ahead of time, and if its available, that's that much less tip money you'd need. I don't think you really tip cabbies in Mexico anyways, unless they're handling luggage. But, what's 20 pesos...

Headed to Isla and the place we are staying has reiterated over and over the most all places accept small US currency for tips ($1 and $5 bill), but the CC use is very hit or miss, and pesos are the vastly used currency on the island for bars, restaurants, cabs, and excursions.

The way I understand XOOM and Remitly…

You connect to your bank account.

You select a local bank.

Make a purchase of pesos

Walk in, show ID, walk out.

Seems much safer than trusting an unknown ATM

Well-known Mexican bank ATMs we use are Scotiabank, BBVA, HSBC, and Santander.

Every tourist area in mexico takes dollars. I would not worry about it and 99% of hotels will trade out a $20 for pesos.
