I guess I'm the only one who's not at all a fan of the El Dorado Casitas....

What didnt you like about it? I was looking at going there this summer

Well I thought the rooms were well kept and updated, the pools were nice, etc. But for the rest I guess it's just my personal preference...

• I thought the beach was pretty bad, basically unusable. You may lay in a cabana deal on the beach, but that's about it.
• The food was average at best. Overall I think we only had a couple meals that we thought were good.
• Alcohol, I'll be upfront and say I'm not a big drinker anymore. I've seriously cut back over the last couple years, so when I do drink it's typically vodka water, a good whiskey (or whiskey drink) or wine. That being said, the wine selection was horrible, the house wines are $5 wines. Want to buy something with dinner, it's ridiculous markup, like $100 for Kendall Jackson if I remember correctly. At the pool bars, you aren't getting whatever top shelf alcohol you order, at least I wasn't when I ordered a Titos and water. Though I will say the main bar at the lobby had some good drinks, as did the champagne cocktail bar.

Again, that's personal preference and just my .02. My wife and I travel a lot, and we just look at the opportunity cost of a vacation like this. We've gone to some pretty amazing beaches for the same cost (granted they do have longer travel times). We also like to explore the culture more, with some research you can find some great local food spots, splurge on some fancy dinners, and hit up local bars for far less than most AI markups.
