Looking for a 10 year anniversary trip, we are beach and sun people so there or perhaps Costa Rica, A,B,C islands?

We have been to a lot of the Caribbean before so was looking for somewhere else.

We have vacationed at:
St Marteen
Belize
Curacao
Punta Cana, DR
Roatan, Honduras

The two people I know that went said it was not worth the 20+ hours it took to get there. Amazing place, but not easy to get to

Hit up the Maldives instead.

I just got back from there and it was seriously the trip of a lifetime.

There's a reason it's known as Boring Boring. The Maldives are better, especially if you're divers. The beaches are very pretty, but I'm not sure they're so much better than the Caribbean that it justifies the cost and travel time.

Can't speak for staying on Bora Bora but wife and I did a weeklong Moorings cruise two years ago sandwiched between stays on Raiatea and Moorea. Granted, we did go with two other couples we knew so don't know how it would be with two couples you don't know (4 cabins, one is for crew), unless you could spring for whole boat. It went from Raiatea to Tahaa to Bora Bora and back. Maybe our best vacation next to Bali.

Have been three times and just got back from a trip there a few weeks ago. What do you want to know? It's a different kind of trip than Hawaii and more accessible (to me) than the Maldives.

I found it pretty easy to get too. I mean sure, the travel time was long but when you got to your final destination, it was unlike anything I've ever experienced before.

It probably took me around 24 travel hours (was traveling from Houston) to get there but I would have traveled 48 hours to see this sunset and have this private beach for my boyfriend and I. We are already trying to figure out when we can go back! It was the most peaceful/relaxing/beautiful place on earth.

Maybe I'm lazy, but travelling to the otherside of the world sounds terrible. I'd rather be in a lesser beach that took me 4-6 hours to get to all day every day.

I get that, but my wife and I are the opposite. After visiting Thailand, we'd much rather spend a day travelling to get to, in our opinion, a much more beautiful destination.

We've done the Caribbean about 4 times, and I doubt we do it again, at least not anytime soon. As I previously said, the next beach trip we do will probably be Maldives for our 5 year anniversary.

We are the same way. Nothing appeals to us in the Caribbean et al any more. We primarily go to SE Asia, India and NZ now. We have seen what we want to in Europe, so I doubt we go back for many years. The flights do not bother us much any longer, now that we can usually be in business class or occasional first.

The flight there is fine. Its coming back that sucks.

Yeah, I am not there yet. I don't get much vacation time, so its a valuable commodity.

If I had the money and time, I'd love to see the world.

If you're looking for an island that is closer to home yet rivals the other side of the world, look at Turks and Caicos. I've been to islands all over the world and the beaches are top 5 from what I have seen.

Went to Bora Bora on my honeymoon last June and absolutely loved it. As mentioned the flight is 8 hrs from LAX to Tahiti overnight so it allows you to sleep and adjust to the time change easuy. The price for food and drinks in the resorts is a bit high but if you get utside of the resorts the cost for shopping, food, and drinks are not a significant amount more than in the US. The main island has some great restaurants. I have been to the Caymans, Cancun, St Lucia, St John, Belize, Cabo and the beach and water are definitely better in Bora Bora. Staying in a hut over the water was amazing as well

Do you think there's Europeans on a message board somewhere saying:

"We've been to SW Asia, South Pacific enough...it just doesn't do it for us any more. So we go to Mexico or the Carribbean. It's SO much better."

absolutely they are. talk to some of them next time you're at the resort. it's quite funny. but, everyone has a different perspective and tastes.

i haven't been to East Asia, South America or Africa. That being said, I could vacation in Central America for the rest of my life.

Maldives is a long trek but worth it. The flight back is brutal and along with jet lag/having to wear shoes again in real world

Bora Bora is badass. In my humble opinion, worth the travel troubles.

We're looking into SE Asia for next year and I can't figure out Bali, it comes across as Asia's version of Cancun with crappier beaches and terrorists.

The two bombings happened years ago. There were posters all over of the mastermind when we were there. He was killed in a shootout on Jakarta a few weeks later. It is kind of a Cancun for Aussies, just because of the accessibility. It has a really cool vibe, the rice terraces, the people, beaches, temples, and smells. We really loved it, even after my last night living in bathroom

Bora Bora was the bomb! would definitely go again... did it on #15.. plan to do maldives at #20

we stayed at the Four Seasons... impeccable service... great restaurant on the mainland called La Villa Mahana... highly recommend, but you need to reserve WAY in advance

one of the best vacations that we have had...

if you can work amex points correctly, you can get Four Season $1000 gift cards for big discounts.. will help reduce the costs of the hotel

if you do moorea... make sure that you do moorea before bora bora... it will make a big difference

Wife and I got traditional tattoos on Moorea. Again, if you're looking for nightlife, it's mainly in Papeete, the other islands are fairly chill.

This is why less than half of Americans have a passport. To each their own, but once you have been to some other beaches besides galveston, you will understand.

All that being said, Hawaii is awesome.

I've not been to the others but Bora Bora was ridiculous!

My recommendation is to split it up between a few of the islands. We spent several days in Moorea doing excursions and stuff. I absolutely loved Moorea. We spent 2 nights in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora, just snorkeling and taking it easy. I've never seen such beauty before. Totally worth it to me. But I wouldn't make it the sole destination.
