I have an extra day before my tour begins in Dublin, so I'm thinking should i spend it in Dublin where I'm already spending 2 days or should I take a trip to Belfast.

Thoughts?

I'd go for Belfast if your tour isn't already covering it.

We are going in a couple of months but mainly staying in Western Ireland with a day or two in Dublin. We haven't decided if we want to make the trek up to Belfast or not at this point. We've got the ideas for the first few days of the trip, still working on the rest. A lot of it we will figure out when we get there.

If you need something to do in Dublin, take the DART south to Greystones, hike to Bray via Bray Head. Hang out in Bray and head back to Dublin in the afternoon

Agree with Wangus. If you don't already have it on your schedule though, do the Guinness tour. It's much better than your typical brewery tour. Your pint at the end of the tour is one you won't forget.

I did not like Belfast. We did the black taxi tour, and I enjoyed that, but I would have rather spent an extra day in another city/area.

On my list, a must do in Dublin is the Kilmainham Gaol.

Temple Bar area is fun for a day, but the overwhelming number of drunk Brits and other tourists made it feel a little like Bourbon Street.

And for Guinness, they have a free tour on the hour (I believe) that you can go on with the price of admission.

I do wish we had been able to see the Book of Kells, but the day we went, we were a little short on time, and the line wasn't going to work with our schedule.

I'd go to the Giant's Causeway

This place is truly amazing, however the Victorian Wing (the big, main holding area) is under renovation and is not on their current tour so you miss a lot. If Irish history is your fancy, I still highly recommend it as it means a lot to us and there is still the history and the smaller cell blocks to see.
