Just as it states, would it be dumb to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon? I started with the idea of somewhere tropical (St. Lucia, Grenada, ect) but I've had several people tell me to look into Hawaii.

For some reason though, I've got it in my head that it's too cliche to go there.....what say you?

Who cares if it is cliche?

Look into all the destinations, find the one that looks best to you at the right price, enjoy your honeymoon.

As for actual advice, I have none. Went to Seattle for my honeymoon.

This. Do what you want to do. It's your honeymoon.

I'd call Vegas or Niagara Falls cliche, but they are still fun times.

Eh - Who cares. We got married in Hawaii and stayed there for our honeymoon. It was a beautiful setting, not as expensive as something like Fiji (which I'm sure is also beautiful), and - as an added bonus - we can go back every few years relatively easily.

At the end of the day, it's your honeymoon - go where you want and don't worry what other people think.

My son went to Maui last year on his honeymoon. We had taken him there multiple times but his wife had never been. They had a fabulous time & yes a little easier on the budget than some other tropical destinations!

What do I say? I say you are worrying about what other people think way too much. Since you are starting a new phase of your life it is time to start doing what you want to do and not what you think will impress others.

Go where you want to go. Hawaii isn't any more cliche than any other tropical destination.

Trust me, I'm not trying to impress anyone except my wife.....

I was just worried it would be a zoo & just not ideal, but obviously I'm wrong.

Going to start researching places to go/stay there.

Went to Hawaii on the honeymoon and now live here. Do what you want and enjoy it. Hawaii is truly amazing in my opinion, and I've been to many other tropical places as well.

I see probably 3 weddings a day on Saturday/Sunday on Waikiki and countless honeymooners. Don't worry about being cliche.

Probably should abstain from sex too if you're looking to not be cliche

Went to Maui for our honeymoon. Stayed at Grand Wailea. It was a little pricey($500 per night), but it was awesome. From there, we hit main island for day tour. Did the bicycle ride down from volcano and a helicopter ride on Maui. Played a round of gold at Wailea golf course while wife did day spa. Great view of the ocean from every hole.

Been wanting to go back ever since. If you have the chance to do Hawaii for honeymoon, DO IT. FYI. There are cheaper places to stay, but the rooms at Wailea were pretty pimp.

It depends when and where you go.

If you spend most of your time in Waikiki during the summer then it will be a zoo.

Best time of the year to go to Hawaii is during the months of March, May, Sept or Oct. Nov to Feb is their rainy season. April is apparently the vacation season for the Japanese so it can get crowded then. June through Aug is the summer, of course. The last week in Aug (when we went) isn't too bad though since most of the mainlanders have returned for their kids school year.

Figure out which island you want to go on. Oahu has the best beaches and the most things to do, but the worst traffic (don't drive West in the evening if you are coming out of Waikiki). Maui is probably the prettiest island but it's traffic is getting worse now (basically there is a mountain in the middle of it). Kauai is pretty and traffic is okay, but it gets a lot of rain. The Big Island is cool if you want to see the volcano and black sand. Molokai may be the least pretty of the vacation islands but if you like to do the ATV thing it can be cool.

Hope you two have a blast.

One last word. If you two go to Oahu, stay away from Waianae and Nanakuli unless you're in tourist a bus. Both are bad cities. I say this on account there is a good luau in Waianae (Paradise Cove). I actually drove out there in the rental. However, I made sure I had plenty of gas before I drove out there.

If you go to Oahu, the north shore shark adventure is awesome. You get in a cage with goggles and snorkel and have sharks swimming around you.

My fiance and I are going to Maui the first week of November, splitting time between Wailea and Lahaina. I've never been and have always wanted to go to Hawaii, so regardless of whether its cliche or not, I'm absolutely ecstatic about going there!

I would rank Kauai easily as my favorite with Maui being 2nd. Oahu is ok but way too crowded and less exotic than the other 2. Cool stuff there like Pearl but less Honeymoonish.

Kauai is just ridiculously breathtaking. The Canyon and cliffs are just insane. Lots of great Homeaway/VRBO type places there.

Maui is great because it is much larger and diverse. Lots to do. It has some great beauty but not as consistently as Kauai and honestly you can spend quite a bit of time in the car driving the island, the Road to Hana is a full day exercise for instance, though it is great.

I've been all over the Caribbean and love it but for shear majestic beauty nothing compares to Hawaii.
