I'm planning a road trip to San Angelo just to say I've been. Haven't really seen much of Texas west of Abilene/Brownwood (draw a line between those, and I'm not sure I've crossed it). Anyone have any suggestions for things to do/see there? The West Texas thread mentioned a couple of mexican restaurants....thought I'd give Fuentes a shot for lunch.

A HS buddy is out there now. He says there are plenty of available women looking for new husbands right now.

It is outside of San Angelo, but you should check out the painted rocks outside of Paint Rock.

You will have to do your research because it is on private land. But they are available for viewing.

EDIT:

Where are you leaving from?? If you are just wanting to see a little of West Texas I would suggest a trip up to Amarillo. Go to see Palo Duro Canyon, maybe Caprock Canyon, and the Panhandle Plains Museum. I think there was a good thread on this topic here on the Travel Board. There are a lot of things to do in that area believe it or not. And you cannot go without going to see the Cadillac Ranch.

If you want to see WEST TEXAS. Then take off to Marathon, Alpine, Marfa, and Fort Davis, with a trip to Black Gap and Big Bend thrown in. But that is much more than a weekend jaunt.

There is lot's to eat:

In order:

Franco's
Peasant Village
Los Ponchitos
Twin Mountain SteakHouse
Western Sky
Fuentes Cafe Downtown
Zentner's Daughter

4 bodies of water. Nasworthy can be fun. Take a walk by the concho river at night. beatiful

Paint Rock, Caverns of Sonora, Christoval, Ballinger, and Robert Lee are all within a short drive for a small town.

Minor league Baseball and Arena Football are starting up.

Go see Angelo State. Nice little campus.

Concho street has some great shopping, Eggameyers, and some other neat little shops in the downtown area can keep you busy an entire day.

The Chicken Farm (Art Gallery) and Fine Arts museum should be open

Thanks for all the advice. Especially on the single's scene out there.

I'm leaving from Dublin, and plan on being back there by 8pm or so. It is just a one day trip. I figure it'll be a nice little chance to get out and see part of the world I've never seen before.

The real challenge is trying to work out the timing of being back in Brownwood for dinner time...mmm, Underwoods.
