I agree completely. I almost hope we do miss the playoffs and do well enough in the draft lottery to get a top 5 pick. With all of the rules and stipulations, that could happen if we miss the playoffs. But if we win the AL west, we could find ourselves in the ALCS with this crappy roster and another pick in the high 20's. I'd just love to have an extra $4-$5 million in draft pool money next year.

These are our every day night in night out 5 and 6 hole hitters in September. These numbers are before tonight and they took bagels so it's really worse than this.

Daulton Varsho the savior. .196/.226/.373 OPS+ 62, wRC+ 62. In fact his wRC+ for the 2H of the season is 60. And he's starting in CF every night. Explain to me why that is better than Jake or Loperfido?

Christian Walker. Mr Abreu without the beard and rubber band. .149/.200/.213. OPS+ 14, wRC+ 15. His entire 2H wRC+ is 61 so he beats Varsho out.

Please for the love of all that is baseball, bench Walker tomorrow and bench Varsho tomorrow. Put Wade at 1B. Put Yordan in LF. Put Cam in RF. Put Trammell in CF (because someone has to play CF and it cannot be that dumb MF who threw to the George R Brown from RF the other night. Catch Vazquez and let Yainer DH. Or catch Yainer and promote anyone with a pulse to DH. Sign Greinke to DH.

Big Puddin' got cut for that OPS.

Joe will trot him out there tomorrow in the 5 hole. And again and again for the next 8 games.

The only saving grace this year has been watching Yordan chase the triple crown….with Polar Bear's 3-run homer last night it feels like RBI crown might be out of reach (he's 6 behind). Good news is Simpson went 0-5 last night so YA is leading BA by 4 pts. Hit a couple of homers and he can pass Carminero. At least get that MVP!

Other interesting note - YA only has 86 AB with RISP vs 138 for Alonso and 135 for Junior. Pretty remarkable YA is even in the hunt for RBI lead with this surrounding cast!

Can't drive in runs when no one is on base in front of you or when they are, you get walked.

Part of this is a function of hitting in the 2 hole. He gets more ABs (marginally) but he will see fewer RISP. Esock on the other hand gets the benefit of Yordan being on in front of him. He's had 175 PA and 149 AB with RISP. Walker is at 167 and 152.

Yordan by the way has had 139 PA with RISP and only 86 ABs. In that situation He's got a SLG of .712 in those 86 ABs and an OPS of 1.282. If you wonder why he's getting 4 fingers, it's just that simple. Alonso has a SLG of .513 and an OPS of .885. Junior is .526 and .912.

Yordan has also been much more efficient in his limited ABs. He's got 55 RBI in his 86 ABs while Junior has just 57 in his 135 AB. Pete has 69 RBI in his 139 AB. And nobody is holding 4 fingers up for Pete. He's only got 5 IBB with RISP. The RBI deal is simple math. Pete is getting a ton of chances with RISP batting mostly in the 3 and 4 holes and teams are letting him swing. So is Junior. Yordan isn't getting the chances mostly due to his teammates not getting on in front of him and partly because opposing managers were holding up 4 fingers a lot in the 2H of the season.

Prorated out to the same ABs, Yordan would have about 80 RBI with RISP with the same chances.

This is precisely what I have been struggling with the most. This team is just going to get worse the next few years until we get things settled in the front office, if we ever do.

This is why I want us to make the playoffs this year..could be another 5-7 dry spell

I want Mathguy to run the analytics office for a new owner.

I don't think we'll stay negative when the rebuilding begins - but this in between phase is the worst

I want us to make it really badly this year. Mostly because I want to see Altuve and Yordan in the playoffs one more time (might be their last here if the front office doesn't get it together)

Also Hader has been one of the best relievers I'd argue in franchise history, and he deserves an October showcase where he can get saves (not the monstrosity that was the 2024 wild card)

More on Yordan.

His secondary numbers are light years beyond junior or anyone else. The MVP shouldn't be close.

I think it's very close. 10 years ago Junior would win it. HR lead and best player on best team. And voters were idiots. Now they understand data and it's clear who is the best player.

Now they are more educated. But…if we don't make the playoffs I'll bet that costs Yordan a lot of votes and they will go in Juniors pocket. Yordan needs his teammates to help him a little.

He's needed their help all year, but hasn't gotten it. I posted about a month ago that the 4 previous triple crown winners all had studs hitting behind them - .295 BA, 30 HR, 100 RBI.
The collection of guys hitting behind Yordan this year is like .245, 17, and 77. No help.

All runs come to an end eventually, and a massive amount of our payroll being hit by the injury bug over the last 2 years has played a big part in our recent struggles, but no one on this board ever talks about that.
