Seems like he was injured, came out after two batters.

"seems like". Yeah. Sure. Walk 2 dudes and "get injured" to avoid the 3 batter minimum.

Radio confirmed his velo went way down and he has an injury of some sort.

Rangerettes are convinced it was a scam and want an investigation.

Anyone diagnose why Alvarez is lost? Or as hot relative to most of the year? No protection? Tired - he's already played more games than any season besides 2024? Nagging injury? Triple crown pressure? A hot Alvarez as season wraps up and goes to the playoffs would be amazing.

He had 2 hits and a run tonight … no constant piss missiles, but dude continues to slash

Ever since that dude left for wake Forest, he's been completely lost.

I'm sure that's the lynchpin of Yordan's success, sure.

Wow! Seahags 7 back...I think they're just about ready to quit. Well, after they beat Arlington and then they can fully throw in the towel.

Wow so even if the Astros finish at .500 going 8-12 down the stretch, the Mariners would have to go 15-5 or the rangers would have to fo 12-8 to keep us from winning the division. Would love to finish well and catch the Sox but pretty amazing they have built this cushion. Pitching sure has come around with Strommie back!

Random question unrelated to the game.

My dad passed earlier this year. We collected cards together when I was young. I was recently going through his and my collection and selling off the ones with value (mainly basketball). Doing research on cards and thinking about my old man kind of rekindled the card collecting fire. I decided to start collecting relic and autograph cards. So far I've gotten Altuve, Bregman, and Correa. I want Yordan but his price is a little high. My question is, if you had to define our dynasty in 5-6 players, who you say? After those 4 I'm looking at Pena, Verlander, Tucker (cheapest), and Springer.

JV and Springer

Will probably get laughed at but McCullers and Reddick as well.

I don't hate it. Those will be cheaper.

I think Springer has to be there just as much as the big 3 you've secured. To me those 4 were the nucleus of it all.

#5 is where the debate gets hard because there are probably 5 names equally as important you could go with. For me it's either JV, Lance or Yuli

Yordan Getting Up There
Despite his tepid (SAT word) August, Yordan cracked 300 total bases for the year last night (301). He is now into the top 50 in that category for a season, tied with 1996 Jeff Bagwell. Bagwell has the team record of 363 from 2000. He is also tied for 13th with himself from 2022, Chris Carter from 2014, and Jimmy Wynn from 1967 for 13th all-time with 37 home runs. Two more gets him into the Top 10 in team history.

Astros Flashback Double Feature!
Two great Astro pitchers both had their MLB debut today one past, one present, with dazzling results.

September 5, 1971: Top pitching prospect J.R. Richard strikes out some guy named Hal Lanier to finish off a complete-game shutout in his major-league debut. Richard ties an MLB record with 15 strikeouts in his first game as the Astros win 5-3. Willie Mays is 0 for 3 with 3 strikeouts against Richard. Bobby Bonds strikes out twice and is later heard muttering in the dugout, "I never want my son to feel this sort of embarrassment. Time to start giving him steroids."

September 5, 2022: Top pitching prospect Hunter Brown makes his MLB debut, throwing six shutout innings in a 1-0 win over the Rangers. Marcus Semien stands there like the tool he is and strikes out on 3 pitches to start the game.
Brown allows 3 hits and a walk while striking out 5. He starts 2 games and appears 5 times in relief down the stretch, going 2-0 with an 0.89 ERA. He comes out of the bullpen twice in the ALDS and once in the ALCS and pitches 3-2/3 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just 2 total hits and 1 walk.

Mariners are on life support and the plug is halfway pulled out. Rangers are still breathing on their own but they are about to need help.

20 games left for everyone.

If we go 10-10 and get to 83 wins, Rangers have to go 14-6 (.700) to get to 84 because of the tie breaker. Seattle only need 83 wins and has to pray for no 3 way, so they need to go 17-3 (.850).

If we go 11-9 and get to 84 wins, Rangers have to play .750 and Seattle is at .900.

A 3 way tie is almost impossible. They have 3 guaranteed losses between them when they play each other and combined they only get 10 (7 and 3). It really means they have to play like .850 ball combined the rest of the way. I'm calling that now. No 3 way tie.

That's 1.5 games and 2 in the loss column so effectively 2 games. Thats going to be hard too.

CWS are at 74 wins and we have 72. If they get to 85 we have go 13-7. So you see us playing .650 ball the rest of the way?

So turns out those April games are just as important. We go .500 in April and we'd have the bye + division all but locked up already

10-10 likely wins the division but I'd love to push 12-8 and catch Chicago for the bye

Just a simple comparison of schedules. Not considering any other factors, Chicago has a massive advantage.

Houston:

2 vs Arizona - 74-68 (33-37 Away)
3 @ Philadelphia - 79-62 (38-31 Home)
3 @ Tampa Bay - 84-57 (47-25 Home)
3 vs Kansas City - 63-79 (26-46 Away)
3 vs Atlanta - 84-57 (36-33 Away)
2 @ Seattle - 66-76 (37-33 Home)
4 @ Sacramento - 56-86 (25-44 Home)

Chicago:

2 vs Minnesota - 67-74 (29-40 Away)
3 vs Pittsburg - 70-72 (33-39 Away)
3 @ St Louis - 71-71 (34-38 Home)
3 @ Cleveland - 72-70 (35-38 Home)
4 vs Detroit - 64-77 (30-42 Away)
3 @ Kansas City - 63-79 (37-33 Home)
3 vs Colorado - 57-87 (25-47 Away)

If we run down the white sox, it would mean we played really good ball. Peaking just in time for the playoffs, with a first round bye.

Not likely, but its the world I'd like to live in.

46-34 with a healthy Hader.

So we are essentially a 92+ win ball club with him.

When you pay big bucks to a free agent, you really want/expect that guy to be a difference maker. So many of them are busts, but kudos to Josh for being everything the Astros hoped he would be. The anti lolleygagger

I don't. But only because the match up isn't crazy. Do we fear the Guards? Of course ANYTHING can happen in 2-3 games. But we should be favored.

Even with the bye we'll be the underdog to the AL East team in the CS.
