Something to keep in mind: The MLB prospect rankings differ quite a bit from how the organization views their prospects.

While I agree with that…is that a good thing? I know MLB prospect rankings aren't always correct, but can we really trust our organization's views?

Btw…I'm assuming the org isn't as high on Neyens as others and he's the big prospect being packaged somewhere.

.800 OPS against righties. Huge upgrade. Was hurt earlier this year but hit .280 last year.

I would almost always trust an organizations view on their own prospects over a third party ranking.

Springer would be a cheap 2-month rental

cheap from the standpoint of prospect(s) going back

I think the point is that George has played 7 innings of outfield this season and was only part-time last year.

I'd still take him and play him out there. I doubt he's forgotten how.

He's got big power too. I just saw watched him this weekend.

seems like a giant reach here but I'm hopeful to be proven wrong. at some point we have to quit completely depleting our system or this will be a 6+ year rebuild

Outside of Neyens and Alvarez, I'd be fine with trading any of our other prospects. Let's be honest, it's not like there is much there, and most prospects don't pan out anyway.

I would prefer not to trade either of those as well. However, if we're getting a player we really like with 2.5-3.5 years of control, then I would be fine with it.

I never got to see Connor play, in part because he was born before the Civil War.

You can't just leave us hanging like this. What were the other reasons you weren't able to see him play?

He started his career with the Troy Trojans, and I got banned from their stadium for engaging in fisticuffs in 1879 when someone dared say that Texas should pay reparations to the Union for starting the Mexican-American War.

There I was, sitting in the bleachers at Putnam Grounds, dressed to impress in my frock coat, trousers, ascot, monocle, and bowler hat, enjoying a tall glass of sarasparilla, and making plans to take a stage coach Utica to see this fellow by the name of Woolworth who had invented something called the "5 and 10" store, when suddenly I overheard this most villainous monologue besmirching my home state.

Despite the game playing on the field mere feet away, I sprung to my feet and raised my voice, a powerful baritone, to declare, " "See here, sir, as sure as Texas will always be a bastion of Democratic political power, I shall hear no such slanderous affronts on its honor!"

He challenged me to a duel but I had forgotten my cane sword at home so I punched him in the face. We were escorted from the field, banned for life, and each made to pay the exorbitant fee of 15 cents for the disturbance caused.

This is everything I hoped it would be. Well done, good sir.

The best part of writing that was how pissed off I got last night when I couldn't spell "Sarsaparilla" right no matter how many times I tried before finally having to look it up and then spelling it wrong in the post anyways.

IMO dealing prospects and depleting the system is fine if you're getting controllable assets back. That way you have a chance to replace those prospects before you need them again.

It's the depleting of the system for rentals that can't happen. We can't be giving up prospects for a guy to hit FA after 50 games.

If it's for a guy like Stowers who's both controllable and has room for development then that's fine.

Look at the potential playoff path.

Win the Division and finish 3rd
  • 3 games vs the Guards at home
  • 5-game series vs the White Sox
Win the Division and Finish 2nd
  • Bye
  • 5-Game series vs the winner of Guards/White Sox
This would be a year to go for it. I would consider it the easiest potential CS run we could ask for.

Since the trade cancellation was leaked, Larnach is 3/8 with 2 HRs.

Another consideration on trading away prospects. When was the last time we traded one away, said "g-dammit, what are you thinking!?" and then actually ended up being right about that prospect's future? Hader?

Do we even have anyone above A ball that we are super excited about?

Clifford was the last one I felt that I hated to lose…and he still hasn't done anything. I feel like Neyens is a lot like him and will probably be the "big prospect" that we ship out.

But I'm also an idiot and had no clue who the guys were at the time that we traded for Vasquez. And now we are kicking ourselves about Wilyer Abreu.

Batting average is basically irrelevant. The guy has a .780 OPS and 117 OPS+, and that's down from his .912 and 151 numbers last season. He's a legit offensive outfielder, something this roster lacks currently.

What's not to get?

I like Trammel too, but even with him in CF and holding out hope for Cam Smith in RF, we still need a viable option in LF. We don't have one currently.

If it happens I hope the Pirates rape and pillage them. Why would the Pirates bother if they aren't getting viable prospects? Seems like they could get a good return elsewhere if they were inclined to move Skenes.

A rape and pillage like Yordan for Josh Fields is what I hope for although clearly Skenes is not Josh Fields.

I agree. I don't really care about losing prospects as long as you're getting someone decent back in return. Either someone who will be in your control for a couple of years or someone who is so unbelievably good, that just having them for two months makes it worth it.

Going back quite a bit, when we traded for Randy Johnson I feel like was with it. We gave up a lot, but Johnson so good you have to take the chance. It turns out it didn't work out for us, but that team was so close that I don't really have an issue with it.

Now if you're trading for an average guy, then that's different. Like, even though I would love to have Springer back, I would not give up any halfway decent prospect. I think we can likely get him just for cash, though.

If we were able to land Stowers, could he become our Schwarber? Forgive me as I haven't really ever watched him play, but some of the highlights I've seen give me those vibes.
