I have to admit. I kind of want to see LAD take Skubal and Peralta along with Rutchsman just as a big FU to the league. That will make the CBA a **** show.

Varsho seems like the most realistic and potentially impactful target to me as far as outfielders , particularly those that can play cf . I have no clue what the cost would be.

I agree. It shouldn't be anything crazy.

I agree. Anything that ends up with Hell A either totally screwed under a new agreement or bankrupt in my lifetime is worth the short-term pain.

Ironically, it makes me think back to the early 90s when the already dominant A"s traded for WIllie McGee and Harold Baines at the deadline and everyone was freaking out about them being too powerful. What a weird journey down we've taken from there.

Part of the Mets return is Billy Amick, who played third base on the Tennessee team we played in the CWS Final. He's hit 23 homers in A-ball this year.

Happy Shewmake got another flier, he's not bad for an insurance policy.

wRC+ Splits - Where do we need to focus at the deadline

Position (Season Long / Last 30 Days)
C: 71 / 97
1B: 108 / 91
2B: 80 / 73
SS: 124 / 160
3B: 123 / 115
OF: 86 / 70
DH: 167 / 189

Platoon
vs LHP: 98
vs RHP: 106

Shockingly, we're a little better vs righties. Maybe a LHH isn't as critical. The 3 (5, really) positions of need are very obvious. We've talked a lot about OF and C, but is it time to consider giving Altuve a few more days off and adding another INF to spell him, besides Allen?

I have thought for a while that we have the wrong guy hitting as DH. If we have somebody who can play 2B and hit better than either of our corner OF, we should be DHing Altuve most nights and letting Yordan play LF. How does Allen or Shoemake looke compared to our corner OFers?

I'm not familiar with the McCourt Bankruptcy. Can anyone shed light on this?

No matter what!
Epstein didn't do, you know, the thing...
I'm the rare Astros/Cowboys/Spurs fan. We do exist

As part of the bankruptcy MLB agreed to cap the amount of the TV deal that was subject to revenue sharing. Estimates are that it saves about $66M a year that would go to revenue sharing if they were treated like any other club.

Almost always better off as the team trading away prospects

The Astros aren't going to play Yordan at LF enough to make this matter.

Most recent MLB bankruptcies:

https://www.fregolaw.com/5-baseball-bankruptcies/

2009: Chicago Cubs
2010: Texas Rangers
2011: LA Dodgers

The year 2011 resulted in quite a troublesome few months for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team faced a major ownership dispute, which began when Major League Baseball (MLB) took over the team and pushed out the owner, Frank McCourt, in April of 2011.

This led to financial turmoil and problems, which would culminate in a bankruptcy filing in June of 2011. In the filing, the Dodgers requested a $150 million loan, which would ensure the team met its payroll obligations. The plan would barely come to fruition, as the team was sold to Guggenheim Baseball Management in May of 2012.

The team was sold for $1.4 billion, which was approved by the local bankruptcy court. However, the final cost of the team was roughly a little over $2 billion. The sale also concluded any bankruptcy obligations, as the new owners settled disputes and paid off debtors. As of 2024, the team's worth was estimated to be around $5.45 billion.

Javier is throwing a bullpen today, the plan is probably to start him.

I supoose trade acquisition is certainly a possibility. I don't see why you would call up Pecko when you already have a numbers crunch.

I'd still be interested in him if the price is cheap enough. Classic change of scenery could help him

Yep - Duran's upside and club control is a screaming take in our situation.

No surprise. Until we stabilize leadership, people will keep pursuing better options and job security.

Can he take Spence, Meyers, Wade, Johnson and Harris with him? Because if that's examples of his work, I'm not impressed.

Is Duran any better than the crappy OFers we already have?

At least they're not a-holes
SpaceCityAg05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
At the moment, no. Change of scenery could bring you an All-Star. These are risks you have to consider when you have little currency with which to trade.

This is the same player we were wanting to trade Paredes for the in offseason. Now due to what may be short-term struggles, he is potentially available for pennies on the dollar.
MaxPower
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Still say I'd get on that if you can get them to eat some salary. Devers specifically is an upgrade on CW

Those guys are/were all zeroes as prospects and are only playing MLB because our "starting" outfielders are basically inept.

I wouldn't blame the hitting coaches for those guys. Can't turn chicken salad into chicken...
