Ultimately it comes down to how much they believe in what he's doing this year. If he keeps doing this for another 4 years then the Sox will be perfectly fine. I do think it speaks to how high the asking prices must be.

I'd also add the Sox were in a position to do this because of their pitching depth. There's been talk that teams need to trade big leaguer for big leaguer because so many teams are competing. I don't see how we could do a similar trade because we have no depth anywhere. Any big leaguer we trade to solve one problem is just creating a hole elsewhere.

This does nothing to fix their middle INF (SS) issue. They added a right handed bat that plays corners. Defensively he's worse than Durbin and Contreras.

Only monetary if the overage is less than 5%

If true, that seems like a big **** up by Dana and team.

Reading some other sources on this, it sounds like if we signed all of our draft picks from the first 10 rounds, we only owe the penalty on the overage and won't lose draft picks. The source I saw said we were onky over by around $1000, so we would pay about $750.

This is all about Washington taking a guy DFA'd before the season and turning him into 5-ish years of team control to a pitching prospect that already has MLB time. Good on them.

What happened to the idea of Cam playing CF? I thought he had put in some reps in training there, but I can't remember if he has actually played there this year in real games.
