Just a shot in the dark - if anyone has tickets to USA/Great Britain on Saturday night that they aren't using, I'll take them off your hands.

so Cole and Loperfido are battling for the RF job -- right?

and both could start when Yordan DH's

If they play RF where is Cam playing?

whoops...kind of forgot about Cam -- thanks to his second half decline last season

maybe the pressure is on Jake to hit with power instead

Assuming Cole progresses like he did at the end of last season, I can easily see a L/R platoon of him and Cam in RF.

I think Cam is still a very raw hitter and right now he needs to be not hitting RHP.

I'm going next Tuesday to USA vs Italy. Waiting on my brother to confirm he can go so if he can't then I'll have an extra ticket

Pretty excited

Altuve single, nearly TOOTBLANs while Yordan is batting, Yordan strikes out, Correa flies out to right field and Altuve successfully TOOTBLANs and gets doubled off first.

I swear he has to have ADHD. He loses all focus on the bases all the time.

For a guy that has great baseball instinct, he sure has no baseball instinct.

Ummm... what? Of course its a problem. We cannot keep someone like Paredes on the bench.

They are not benching Walker. He has 2 years and 40m left on the deal and it's very vocal about wanting to play. If he gets benched that becomes a major clubhouse problem. The ideal thing would be to trade him but no one wants him.

Bench the only guy that could stay healthy and who led the team RBIs? The guy who had a pretty solid year if you remove the first three weeks of the season when he likely came back too early from a spring training injury?

Ideally, you solve the infield logjam by shifting production to the outfield. We weren't going to do that trading Walker. We could have trading Paredes, but only with a willing trade partner.

Since we couldn't pull off a trade, you roll with what you've got, putting Yordan and Altuve in left a little more than you'd probably like. But, hell, we used to have Carlos Lee in left, so we'll be fine. Just have to hope no one gets hurt.

I just want you guys to listen to yourselves when you say "We have to play Walker because NOBODY wants to trade for him."

Paredes plays 1B 1-3 times a week, 3B once a week, and DH 1-2 times a week.

Please don't try to tell me Walker was good after the first 3 weeks of the season. His May and June were dueling abominations.

He won't be with some playtime at multiple positions.

It seems like the main issue is whether the coaching staff will do what is necessary

At home - Yordan LF, Paredes DH
Away - Altuve LF, Paredes 2B

Rest days for players - Paredes can play 1B, 2B, 3B

I don't like definitive statements like "Yordan will never play LF, Altuve will never play LF, Paredes can't play 2B"

These statements just aren't true. They may not be perfectly ideal from a defensive standpoint but it's not catastrophic either

This thread loves guys who look awesome standing on the dugout steps but hardly ever play but not guys that gut it out and lead in RBI

Do you agree it's a problem if you have to propose a solution.

Am I the only one who believes that Walker will have a rebound season? Players are not robots. CW came to a new team with a huge contract and gigantic expectations and he most likely pressed. His wife was also expecting a baby and he had an oblique injury that probably affected his performance. I just have a good feeling about him having a better season. I know that I'll be rooting for him.

I thought he would miss a few weeks at the beginning 9f the season with the injury. He missed 32 games with a similar injury the year before. I personally give him credit for showing up especially on a team that has si many apparent tender players.

Everyone is rooting for him. He was a really terrible cleanup hitter, but he wasn't meant to bat there. You lost Tuck and Bregman to free agency, and Yordan / Paredes missed a ton of time so he got stuck in a role he's not great at.

I am a terrible advanced analytics person, but I know from this this thread last year that he couldn't get around on fastballs over and over again in 2025. He was also terrible at home - .202 average, 94 K in 257 AB. He turns 35 on March 28th. Most guys don't bounce back at 35 unless they're riding the anabolic lightning.

Ultimately, the blame falls on management. They traded for a huge piece in Paredes last year, then added a guy to play the same primary position at the trade deadline, then did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue in the off-season. if you trade Paredes now, is Correa just holding the spot for a couple of years until he's done and then Cam Smith shifts back there? Correa is still 30 and has three more guaranteed years of $32 m/year on his deal, so he's obviously hanging around unless the Astros just blow it all up.

we will see… he sucked for three months, was pretty good for two and was average for one. He's not getting any younger so I'm guessing he will be average to below average. Expecting some massive turnaround season seems unrealistically optimistic but I suppose it could happen.

Cam Smith isn't going back to third base… once guys shift to the outfield they very rarely go back to the infield.

Correa is under contract for 3 more seasons, and possibly more if he vests.

remember the Astros did bench Walker for the middle game of the late September showdown series vs. the Mariners

he was indeed that bad

How long do you want to ignore this user?
also remember Walker hit 4 HR's in his final 3 games...

after the Astros were effectively eliminated after losing the first 2 games at Sacramento earlier in the week

he raised his season OPS 22 points...from .695 to .717 due to the 'garbage time' home runs

Sean Berry syndrome.
13 RBI in the last week of a season to get his RBi count from 82 to 95. Still holding a grudge 30 years later.
