I like how quickly we're writing the narrative without knowing more info. We all thought Kikuchi was a back end pitcher until he performed like an ace in our pitching lab. He probably made an extra 30 M thanks to us.
Burrows is someone we targeted because the lab thinks his potential Is high.
Weiss is another. They see value and talent. Let's wait a minute before we immediately write him off.
I think it's fair to give Javier a shot too. He's basically recreated himself plus year 2 after TJ is usually when the pitcher is fully back.
I would love to have a co-ace to lock in next to Brown, but just because we don't yet doesn't mean SP will not be a strength. Even with the insane amount of injuries last season we still had a top 1/3 of the league rotation.
Maybe I have been spoiled by our lab's performance so far, but I just am not worried about our starting pitching. We have enough guys that have shown flashes that I trust them to pull together 5-6 quality starters out of that group. I am far more worried about our offense and disappointed that it does not seem to be an emphasis for Dana at all in the trade talks.
We managed to have stellar pitching that kept us in front for the first half of 2025 despite our lack of offense, but when the pitching started to break down after the ASB, our offense was not able to step up and outscore anybody. 2 runs against us in the first 3 innings meant it was time to change the channel because we were not going to overcome that most nights. When 2 runs early feels insurmountable, pitching ain't the problem.
Getting Yordan back healthy will help, but without guys around him to keep the pitchers honest, they will just pitch around him. We need at least one more quality LH bat to make teams think twice about pitching us RHP 3 games straight every series. Dana's only non-pitching interest seems to be a backup catcher but we need more than that, and we have already seen that it isn't likely to come up from the farm system.
