Those values make that trade look pretty lopsided.

I'm just happy we got a starter without having to trade off the major league roster (and no, I don't count melton as a major leaguer)

This. We landed someone that will greatly impact the team in 2026 without taking away from the major league roster or having to give up someone like a Ullola.

We have to get LMJ off this list

What we really need is for LMJ to retire
Bellinger is looking for an eight-year deal worth $400m, @Boomskie has learned. Tucker in the same neighborhood. It's going to be a long offseason. @Grampskie https://t.co/55zORlv03k

They want $50m per year? ROFL. that's way too much to pay for a lollygagger and a marijuana addict
Astros GM Dana Brown called Mike Burrows "an upside play" that the Astros feel "can be a pillar in our rotation." Brown said the Astros plan on adding a two-seamer to Burrows' arsenal.

The Tampa Bay Rays turned Chris Archer into Caden Bodine, Slater de Brun, Michael Forret, Austin Overn, Ryan Pepiot, Jonny DeLuca, Isaac Paredes and 2 competitive balance draft picks plus years with Shane Baz, Tyler Glasnow and Austin Meadows. Not bad.

The Astros went over the CBT in 2025, per @JesseRogersESPN
— Michael Schwab (@michaelschwab13) December 19, 2025
Houston went over by $1.4M
This confirms their compensation pick from Framber Valdez leaving will be after the 4th round. Also they pay a higher penalty if they sign a free agent with a qualifying offer.

Acquiring Mike Burrows is a ‘good start’ for Astros. What’s next? - https://t.co/Rt6bmmhbas

Quote:
They are still searching for a backup catcher, bullpen help and, if Brown has his druthers, will add another left-handed bat to balance an extremely right-handed lineup. All of the objectives must be accomplished with limited financial flexibility and, now, a further depleted farm system.

This is where I don't understand the Astros. Either stay under it so you don't take the hit or ignore the limit. Going over by 1.4MM? That's like a mistake like you didn't know how close you were.

I think this is just a fail by the front office doing their damned to stay under but not running the #s right.

If that's the real answer someone should lose their job. That's a bad mistake.
It's also evidence that as much as Crane says he will spend, we really do have a limit. And that tax level is it.

Or they tried and couldn't make it work. It's not like you can suddenly add a bunch of payroll in August.

Dodgers paid $169 million in luxury tax. But yeah, all is fair.
