Those values make that trade look pretty lopsided.

Melton was probably overvalued and Burrows undervalued.

To me it's a bet that Brito doesn't have a starter ceiling and the team is taking a chance on someone they view more favorably in the long term. Until he shows more, Melton is JAG, but the Rays love platooning so they'll probably get the most out of him.

I'll be curious what the next move is.

It's hard to believe that team has one a WS this millennium.

I'm just happy we got a starter without having to trade off the major league roster (and no, I don't count melton as a major leaguer)

This. We landed someone that will greatly impact the team in 2026 without taking away from the major league roster or having to give up someone like a Ullola.

We have to get LMJ off this list

Still think we need to sign JV for veteran presence and added depth.

And he has a long time under team control as well. So he's like a prospect, but actually proven at the MLB level.

I like Alexander better than Spaghetti based on how they ended last season. I would take either over LMJ if last season's lack of control is his new normal.

What we really need is for LMJ to pitch his way up the list

They want $50m per year? ROFL. that's way too much to pay for a lollygagger and a marijuana addict

bellinger should be drug tested for asking for that
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

Nah, let him ask. The one being drug tested should be the GM giving him that deal.

Zero chance I would pay $50M for Tucker for 1 year, much less guarantee it for 8. $50M is for guys that don't disappear in the playoffs and lollygag in the outfield.

This is where I don't understand the Astros. Either stay under it so you don't take the hit or ignore the limit. Going over by 1.4MM? That's like a mistake like you didn't know how close you were.

Quote:

They are still searching for a backup catcher, bullpen help and, if Brown has his druthers, will add another left-handed bat to balance an extremely right-handed lineup. All of the objectives must be accomplished with limited financial flexibility and, now, a further depleted farm system.

I'm sure Brito will turn into an absolute stud bullpen arm in the Tampa system. Better nail the draft this year or these late 2020 years are going to be bleak.

Too bad the front office fumbled staying under the tax. Could have used the extra draft pool money

Brito will be throwing 100MPH out of the TB bullpen and will then need Tommy John within 2 years.

It is very predictable with TB. Load up on young flamethrowers and use them until their arm falls off.

I think this is just a fail by the front office doing their damned to stay under but not running the #s right.

If that's the real answer someone should lose their job. That's a bad mistake.

It's also evidence that as much as Crane says he will spend, we really do have a limit. And that tax level is it.

Or they tried and couldn't make it work. It's not like you can suddenly add a bunch of payroll in August.

I actually think that's one of the things you can do. You can always take on a contract that someone wants to unload. That's basically what we did with Correa.

This just looks like they screwed up and thought they would be under and weren't.
