The A's continue to model how you can stay in neverending rebuild mode.
Astros, Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox among teams in on Sandy Alcantara talk. Value is up on Sandy!

Padres receive: Closer Mason Miller, LHP JP Sears
A's receive: SS Leodalis De Vries, RHP Braden Nett, RHP Henry Báez and RHP Eduarniel Nuñez
De Vries is a huge get for the A's. They are going to be a problem once they get a couple of their top tier pitching prospects up.

Interesting since they have a potential star in rookie Jacob Wilson at SS.

Can never have too much elite pitching
I think Cease or Alcantara with the Astros Pitching Lab would be deadly
Spencer Arrighetti is pitching for the Space Cowboys TONIGHT.

He should be rejoining the Astros soon.

I love what the As have cooking.
Between Kurtz, Butler, Rooker, Soderstrom, Lanegliers, and now this kid they'll be competing soon.
They traded Miller because an elite closer on a cellar dweller is useless.

Eh...they will just trade those guys too. Just like Miller.

The A's don't have a history of that. They will keep guys together for a 3-4 year run then rebuild. They aren't perpetual doormats like the Pirates.SpaceCityAg05 said:

Depending on who we are trading I get the Twins position that $50M is too much. Think you get them to take the rest of this years salary and maybe another $10M in a later year for $25Mish total but I do agree we need something else in the package to take on his injury risk and a lefty OF bat with some control makes sense (Wallner ideal).BadAggie said:EastCoastAgNc said:The Astros' trade talks with the Twins for shortstop Carlos Correa are all but dead. Makes sense. Correa's production this year is pretty much in line with that of new acquisition Urias who costs like 3% of what Correa costs this season
That being said, for $50 mil over 3 years would absolutely take Correa
Or you can trade Paredes or Pena in the offseason for a big return. Regardless, it's a next year problem.Farmer1906 said:
You could make it work.
Pena at SS
Correa at 3B
Paredes splits time between 3B/1B/DH
Walker has to improve to keep his starting job at 1B.
OR
You teach Paredes LF and Altuve goes back to 2B.

Correa isn't worth $17M/yr
So us taking on $50M is being generous and fair

I fear that's how Yordan is trending

I understand not thinking he's a 33 M a year player, but why isn't he a 17 M a year player?

If this year's performance is anything to go by, he's not.
We are getting better performance from Urias at a fraction of the cost of Correa
Padres are really going for it and it shouldn’t be assumed Cease and/or Suarez will be going now after they added Miller and Sears
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) July 31, 2025
If it's Alcantara that isn't a rental. Agreed on Cease unless other parts are involved. If we could get Salas back to be a future catcher that could make sense as he gives us a lefty option behind the plate.B-Rabbit said:
Yainer for a rental just seems dumb. I'm not ready to give up on him yet.

I don't think the front offices think like that. He has a career of excellence. He's still hitting the ball well. The odds are he improves if he continues to, not stay the same. He's still fairly young.
