Thanks for the input.

Ford Museum is awesome- and more than just cars!
I imagine the Ford Museum is like the weird musuem on Severance.

Have the Astros ever implemented tandem starts at the ML level?

It gets brought all the time but IIRC if it's happened it's just been a couple random ones here and there over the years.

Just not a method I see them implementing.

Well they did do it twice. Both times the same guys. And they swapped the roles each time.

2017 ALCS GM 7
2017 WS GM 7
Pretty big difference in end of the year, must-win situations and random games in the summer.

Have the Astros even really ever used so much as an opener? Is that still a thing that happens around the league?
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Exactly

And yes they have used openers before but it's just been maybe 3-4 times. Pretty sure you can count on one hand how many times they've done it.

No, but I wish they would with some of these guys coming back from injury. I think it would help both LMJ and Javier.
Ag_07

Yeah I don't disagree

I just doubt they go that route. If they thought it was a good idea we'd have seen it more often.

God knows we got enough guys coming off injuries to do it.

Astros Bingo Update
6-24-25

HOME RUN CHASE
Raleigh hit another one, #32. He's on pace for 67 freaking home runs.
Judge hit #28, on pace for 58. Ohtani now a distance third at 25 (53 pace).

YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN
So you want to leave the Astros for greener pastures, ay?

Carlos Correa: 5 HR, on pace for 10.
Justin Verlander: 0 wins, on pace for even more 0
Ryan Pressly: 5 saves, on pace for 10

KEEP YOU EYE ON ALTUVE
He needs 4 hits to tie Bagwell for #2 on the Astros' all-time hit list at 2,314. Once he moves past him, he'll be into the Top 150 all time.

Other current all-time marks for the GOAT.

Runs scored: He recently entered the top 200 all-time. He's at #192 with 1,192. Notable targets in the near future are Willie Stargell (1,14), Andrews Galarraga (1,195), and Dale Murphy (1,197).

Total bases: He's #166 all time with 3,536. He passed Mark Teixiera and John Olerud over the weekend. Up ahead are Joe Torre, Will Clark, and Mark Grace among others.

Doubles: He's currently in a fascinating tie for #122 all-time with Roger Connor, Barry Larkin, Fred McGriff, and Michael Young at 441. Bagwell's a couple of years ahead at 488. The near future includes Mattingly (442), Galarragaga (444), and Rod Carew (445).

Singles: He's #163 with 1,597, so just 3 away from 1,600. Jose Cruz is at 1,601. He needs 21 more to reach #150. He's less than HALFWAY to Pete Rose at 3,215. Insane.

Astros' 2005 20-Year Flashback
6-24-05

The Astros made it four straight wins to reach 32-39 on the year, beating the visiting Rangers 5-2 as Roy Oswalt won his 9th game of the year, lowering his ERA to 2.70 with 7.1 innings of 6-hit, 2-run ball without walking a batter.
The Astros jumped ahead 2-0 on RBI singles by Brad Ausmus and Willy Taveras wrapped around a walk to Adam Everett, a single by Chris Burke, and a sac by Oswalt himself. You don't like our offense now? In June 2005, we were playing Burke (.209 average, .534 OPS), Ausmus (.223 average, .590 OPS) and Everett (.235 average, .662 OPS) every damn day.
Jason Lane hit a 2-run blast off whoever Ricardo Rodriguez is in the bottom of the third to make it 4-0.The Rangers got back-to-back jacks from all-time Texas greats Rod Barajas and Laynce Nix in the 8th, but Adam Everett stole home after Jose Vizcaino lured a throw to second in the bottom of the frame.
Brad Lidge mentally destroyed Teixeira, Soriano, and Richard Hidalgo, hey that guy, for his 18th save.

The win got the Astros to 17-9 since their infamous 15-30 start that led to the Chronicle's tombstone graphic.
At 32-39, they were 13 games behind the Cardinals for first, and 6 games behind Atlanta for the wild card.

This post got me looking at some MLB leaders, and something jumped out.

Corbin Carroll
25 homers in 155 games in '23
22 in 158 games in '24
and 20 homers already in 72 games this year

Altuve does still have a chance to finish his career in the top 100 for HRs and steals, but looking like a longer shot.
HRs - he has 241, which is tied for 278th place. 309 would be top 150 while 352 would be top 100
Steals - he has 321, which is tied for 145th place. 363 would get him too 100

He is currently #2 all time in TOOTBLANs with 1,997. He trails only Wyatt "Wydja Run" Jenkins from the 1880's. Fun fact, Jenkins was the first ball player diagnosed with restless leg syndrome.

I don't know why but the bolded part of this comment reminded me of the scene in Happy Gilmore when he's talking about his ex girlfriend to his grandma

I can at least buy it with a young guy like him. I was looking at Elly de la Cruz's stats yesterday, he's turning into Eric Davis in front of Cincinnati's eyes for potential.

He had 13 HR in 98 games as a rookie and 25 in 160 game last year, but already has 18 in 79 games this year. He's on pace for an absolute monster all-around year even though his steals are down more than 50%, he's a way better all around player.

'24 DLC - 105 runs, 36 2, 10 3B, 25 HR, 76 RBI, 67 SB, 69 BB, 218 K, .259/.339/.471

'25 DL (projected): 127 runs, 31 2B, 4 3B, 37 HR, 113 RBI, 43 SB, 70 BB, 178 K, .272/.348/.513

The guy is on pace to drive in 40 more runs, scored 22 more runs, hit 12 more homers, raise his OPS 50 points, and lower his strikeouts by 40 from his age 22 season to his age 23 season. That is INCREDIBLE.

Cal Raleigh is the real sus here, suddenly turning into Superman at age 28 after going 27, 30, 34 in homers.

Thanks for the input.

I went to a game 2 years ago when in town for work. Cool vibe right around the stadium. I sat in multiple spots to take in the stadium and every view was great. I met some MSU fans/alums and we discussed how similar Michigan state is to A&M according to them it's a very similar vibe and apparently both are land grant schools.

They have a cool museum pieces in the center of the lower concourse which I enjoyed looking through

Nope. Me either. And I don't think MLB wants to catch him. It's one thing to bust Tatis jr for "ringworm medication" while he's rehabbing an injury. Or to bust Profar at the start of the season. It's another altogether to bust the guy leading the league in HRs mid season.

I'm with you 100%. A guy who's been in the league for four years before this year - career .220 hitter and .750 OPS - now .278 and 1.049. I don't think so!

That doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.
