Expectation: Stay in the mix. The Astros have been a yearly contender for a decade, and the numbers add up to another run at the AL East flag, though Houston will have plenty of company in that chase.

Reality: The Astros' over/under at ESPN BET sits at 86.5, so you could argue that this projection is a bit optimistic. Even so, Houston's baseline entering a season hasn't been this low in 10 years. You lose Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker and Justin Verlander from a roster and the forecasting machinery isn't going to like it.

The Astros look like they've threaded the needle -- remaining viable while iterating their next version. We will see. Having the lowest-ranked farm system in the game isn't going to help.

This isn't all that different from 2021. Vegas had us at 87.5 wins and Fangraphs at 88 wins. We went to the WS that year.

One thing texaggies2015 has said before is how great the Astros clubhouse has been over multiple years. Several new additions have commented on it. Not every club is like that - most aren't. Bregs obviously a reason for the positives so will he help the new club or will some keep acting like they are acting.

Honestly, I think there is little Bregman can do in this situation. It is something Cora should have prepared Devers for and the club should have made clear to the other players before they even finalized things with Bregman. By leaving thing unclear, they are letting these little things turn into bigger things than they should be. Cora should be out there right now in front of anybody with a microphone or camera telling them what the club wants to try with those guys, but only after he has had talks with them individually and together as a group. It is a failing of his management that this issue is being argued out publicly like this.

And it is glorious...will be even more fun if it implodes and the fire gets turned up under Cora's ass.

Gonna be a bit difficult to speak with much authority when he, as usual, is hovering around Mendoza in June on a team with an established franchise player.

Any time you have Rafael Ramirez as top 3-5 in hits you know your team was not great.

That team was sandwiched between the 86 group and the 91 group. You had Biggio and Cammy coming up and you had players like Puhl and Doran still playing.

You know a team is terrible when Rafael Ramirez has the highest batting average. And that average is .276.

There is no uncertainty at 2B (for 2025). Altuve will play 2B most of the time. Dubon's better defense is nowhere good enough to make up for his much worse bat, especially when we still have no idea if Jake and Chas will produce, and both of them will be in the lineup most days.

Why would we consider moving Altuve to LF only to put Dubon at 2B? Ok, tradeoff with defense at 2B? What about the tradeoff in defense in LF? Wouldn't those kind of offset each other? Doobie is better defensively at both positions but his bat is WAY worse than Altuve. He should not be a "regular" in the lineup IMO.
