The AAV is 30 according to Olney(?), so he's getting paid less than 30 a yr. If he's getting paid 30, the discounted value of the deferred salary will make the AAV greater than 30.

So that makes what he accepted even closer to what the Astros could have paid him for 3 years. How is it not a worse deal for him?

Yes

Had we signed Bregman at his ask ($30M), we would be over not only the first tax, but also the second tax.

You can see the hesitancy in why we didn't give him more.

Nothing is official until after the season. As of now the estimates have at around 236. You want to operate a few million under for cheap pick ups and trades. Anything significant will put us over.
