Great eye with high percentage of solid contact. Just appears to lack power.Farmer1906 said:
It might be just a small sample size fluke but Gamel was pretty dang good last season.
Jose Altuve approaching some benchmarks in 2025:
— Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) February 6, 2025
He needs 21 homers to reach 250 in his career.
With 44 more runs, he'll reach 1,200.
With 18 more hits, he'll be at 2,250.
.306 lifetime average (the highest among active players), 7 Silver Slugger Awards.
He's likely to pass Billy…
I think we're better off without him at this point. We could do a lot to sure up the next 5 years with the money we still have sitting on the table for Bregman.Beat40 said:
Either way, I'm fine with the situation as I think the Astro are fine without him.
Then I have my doubts we're actually committed to the next long run. Because Framber is a lot more worthy of that kind of money than Bregman on the backside of his career.Ag_07 said:
But we know that money won't be used on anyone but Bregman.

I can assure you they are not waiting for him to sign before making any other moves.
They made a monster trade and signed Walker. They were in on Polanco until the very end. They've been talking to St Louis about Arenado and others.
If he wants it, he can take it. The offer is still there because he's one of the only players that Crane is willing to go over the tax for. Crane really likes Alex. But in no way shape or form is their offer preventing them from making moves.
I think they're about done as far as free agency goes unless they sign a reliever for cheap which is in play. Any bigger move will probably come from a trade. Should be interesting.
everyone fighting for 2nd anyways.Farmer1906 said:
We aren't positioned to go on a long run of excellence. We're at the end of the window. Dana has done a good job of making the final window '25-'27 and not just end in '25 like we were positioned to before this offseason.
And the sports world would be better for it.Mathguy64 said:AggiEE said:tjack16 said:MaxPower said:
Why wouldn't we give him what is effectively a 1 year, $30M deal? I'd much rather do that than 6/$156M
I'd love that. I'd even prefer a 2 year high AAV deal to get prime Bregman for 2 more years which gives Cam smith more time for development to be the guy
A 1 or 2 year deal doesn't make sense since we'd lose a draft pick by signing Bregman
It makes sense if it's 2 years, no opt outs, $60MM with $45MM of it deferred until 2030. But that's not happening.
Scott Boras would choke on a chicken bone before letting Bregman sign that deal.
Free agent third baseman Alex Bregman still has no interest in a short-term contract and seeks a 6- or 7-year deal.

Does he even have interest in one of that length? I think there was one of those on the table for a while now....EastCoastAgNc said:Free agent third baseman Alex Bregman still has no interest in a short-term contract and seeks a 6- or 7-year deal.

I think the rumor was Toronto had offered him a 6 year deal, and Detroit had possibly gone to 5 or 6, but it was lower AAV.n_touch said:Does he even have interest in one of that length? Which tells me he is locked in on team 4 (Red Sox) and wants them to give him a contract to match the others.AggiEE said:EastCoastAgNc said:Free agent third baseman Alex Bregman still has no interest in a short-term contract and seeks a 6- or 7-year deal.

Sounds like he only has 3 potential offers
Detroit, Toronto, or Houston
Take your pick and move on please
If he is not signed by July, I think he will have more problems than just baseball to deal with. That's a lot of time off of work with no pay and missed HEB commercials. Mrs Bregman may go Correa on him by that time.Ag_07 said:
He's gonna hold out until after the draft and we're gonna fckd out of a comp pick aren't we?

I think Crane and Boras have some history that has kept us from signing some of his FA guys. But also be careful in taking everything printed as reliable info about the real situation. A lot of it is info passed by Boras to writers to make teams question themselves and up their offers.n_touch said:

I get it, just wondering. You have Altuve being really vocal, the team being vocal and saying they will go over the tax limits for only him and no deal is done.txags92 said:I think Crane and Boras have some history that has kept us from signing some of his FA guys.
