Y'all are nuts.

I think Bregman actually wants to be here or in Boston but neither one will pay him enough.
Here's what I now think after the Alonzo deal:
1. Bregman would prefer here or Boston, and as you said, neither were willing to pay him the $30M/yr for 6+ years he was seeking. I think Bregman has faced that reality and has accepted it. Pretty clear he doesn't want do go to Detroit, and I'm confident he doesn't really want to play in Chicago.

2. I think Bregman & Boras approached both the Astros and Red Sox about deals at $30M/yr with opt-outs, probably after the 1 or 2 year mark. I think neither club wants to do those deals.

3. I think Bregman ends up with an Alonzo type deal at this point if he continues to let his pride get in the way. It wouldn't shock me either if he does actually end up in Chicago .

Either way, I'm fine with the situation as I think the Astro are fine without him.

Certainly seems like things are trending this way.
I think Alex asked Houston and Boston for a deal like this and they both said no. Cubbies might be the only team willing to do it.

That tweet doesn't mention the failures who turned down big money who ended up settling for similar deals like Montgomery.

I'm beginning to think Boras is playing these guys. I'm thinking he is seeing he can get essentially two deals done in 6-8 years per player, which of course translates to fees.

I've kind of changed my mind that Boras isn't seeing the trend in the market for players. I think he's spotted the trend and is taking advantage. It's happened too many times the past few years for it to be coincidence. For now, I'm going to give him some credit.

At what point does Altuve start to take the AB stuff personally. He's doing everything he can as a player and saying that he's willing to do whatever to get Bregman back and he's too selfish to oblige.

At some point that has to cross the minds of Altuve and others.

Thoughts?

I have stated this same thing several times about Altuve lobbying for Astros to do everything they can to resign Bregman. I think Altuve is professional enough to not let this affect him however. The Astros offer was fair and I believe Bregman is overvaluing himself and relying on Boras to find the best deal possible. But his reluctance to sign with spring training approaching next week is surprising. I know he's earned the right to try and get the best possible deal for himself and his family, but it makes you wonder if Altuve is disappointed and surprised that Bregman hasn't shown the kind of loyalty that he showed when he signed his extension, and a lot of us fans thought he would have toward the only team he's played with during his entire career.
Wish Breggy the best in whatever decision and direction he chooses/ and thanks for the memories.

Yep

It was obvious when we were first ones he circled back on. Then were rumored Boston deals and numbers being leaked.

Now it's finally the Cubbies he's gonna end up settling on.

I don't think this ends up being a good move for Bregs. I'll wish him the best but I don't think it'll work for him.

Altuve, Yordan, Correa, Springer, crap even Pena for a season. Breggy has always been the bridesmaid. He wants to be the bride.

It's ego and ignorance of risk at this point.

A short term, $100M contract with opt outs allows you to test free agency again, potentially a year older and at the risk of:

1. Injury (he's prone to injuries)

2. Performance drop off (significant over the last few years).

If either #1 or #2 (or both) happen, his market value declines significantly. He's still locked in for $100M, but he's also not guaranteed an extra $56M.

And why does he suddenly think that he's going to become the Bregman of 2019 again? He will be 32 years old when he's up for another free agent season next year.

The other thing to consider is that Wrigley field is an awful match for Bregman, so signing a short term deal just feeds into issue #2 above. If no team is offering him the mega deal he wants now, how likely is it that another team next year will match the Astro's offer for the next 5 years, especially if you see poor numbers from Bregman in Wrigley? What about his own legacy as a baseball player, where a poor ballpark can hurt his long-term stats?

If he turns down $156M guaranteed with a chance to have an ideal stadium fit, and competitive team, because Boras is blowing smoke up his ass, he's less intelligent than I thought.

So he is going to go be Tucker's bridesmaid in Chicago?

I think the surprising thing is to see him continuing to play obvious Boras games leaking that "things are heating up" with a team he obviously doesn't want to play for while expecting other teams to up their offers. He is at the point where he has gotten the best offers he is going to get. There is obviously nobody out there chomping at the bit to overpay for him, and the longer he waits, the more likely it becomes that his preferred teams make other moves that preclude them from having a spot/budget for him. He should get off the pot and pick an offer and go with it. He isn't going to gain anything from anybody he wants to play for by waiting two more weeks to sign.

Wrigley would be the worst place for Bregman as a hitter.
