It would end up being Paredes to LF not Altuve.

Maybe situational?

Altuve in LF at home, Peredes in LF in difficult ballparks

Seems like a Yordan / Altuve platoon in left would qualify as the best hitting /worst fielding single position duo in baseball history

Quote:

Regarding the defense, the rule change now allows a hitting team to accept an awarded base if a defensive player violates the shift ban and is the first player to field a batted ball. Teams are required to keep two infielders on either side of the second base bag. Previously, if a fielder violated the shift ban likely a middle infielder starting on the opposite side of the base the hitting team could either take an automatic ball or accept the result of the play. They'll now be able to take the free base or the play result. If they accept the free base, any runners would move up one base. The fielder will be charged with an error, while the hitter will not be credited with an at-bat.

If a player deliberately overruns the second or third base bag to beat out a force play, a longstanding rule is that the runner is to be called out for abandonment. Players are only really incentivized to do this if they're the trail runner when there was a runner on third base with two outs. If they feel they'd be forced out if they slow down or slide, they may instead run through the bag. While they'd likely be tagged out a second or two later, negating the force play would allow the runner who'd been on third base to score.

Now, the replay official can determine whether the runner from third base touched home plate before the trail runner officially abandoned the bag. That's defined as having both feet on the ground beyond the base. If the lead runner had not scored by then, the run will not count. The rule also includes an adjustment to replay review. Previously, if the umpire had incorrectly called the trail runner out on the initial force play, a successful challenge by the hitting team would call the runner safe even if the runner had gone through the bag. In that scenario, the replay official can now call the runner out by abandonment.

If breggy came back that would be a very right handed batting order. Wonder how much it would cost to sign Gamel. He put together some nice at bats last year.

Free up room to make a trade and stay under.

Get a better comp pic for Breggy.
Comp pick for Bregman is based on last year's payroll so that ship has sailed. It could help with Framber but hardly seems worth considering if we are trying to compete this year.

Fine comp pick for Framber.

So for the second rule....

We're potentially going to see some crazy acrobatics in certain situations? Like guys literally running as fast as they can and leap jumping off the bag to extend the time they have before both feet reach ground

If Bregs comes back - I haven't prepped myself properly mentally to withstand Breg's early 3 months of pop ups and GIDPs.

Maybe without the pressure of signing a long term contract, we get 2nd half Breggy instead of 1st half Breggy

I was not prepared to only be able to ***** about Meyers and Chas… this would be a welcomed surprise

Edit - forgot about Pena and sliders…. Been a long offseason

If Ryan doesn't waive his no trade, Alex is off the table. If he rejects a trade, I feel like some in the fanbase will blame him for Alex being elsewhere, however unfair tat might be.

Any potential move of an infielder to the outfield would have the health of Yordan Alvarez in mind. Alvarez said Thursday at the Astros fan caravan stop he was worried his late-season right knee injury was going to require surgery, but was able to avoid surgery.

"At the time of the injury there were a lot of doubts, and I didn't know if I would need to get surgery or not," said Alvarez through a translator. "But the last three or four weeks have been good, and I'm good to go."

"There was a lot of damage, but it wasn't enough damage to have surgery and my body's been recovering good and I feel good to go," said Alvarez.

When asked if he'll be ready for Spring Training on Day 1, Alvarez said "Yeah, for sure." Alvarez said he's good to both hit and play the field immediately.
I hope our training staff have done a better job of evaluating his knee than they did evaluating pitchers elbows over the past few years.

I will start by saying I know nothing.

With that out of the way, I think with each day that goes by there is a greater chance that he is back. Move Pressly and I think that really increases the odds.

So if we have Tuve in LF, Jake in CF and Chas in RF, would there be a worse throwing OF in the majors?

This just sounds like a very bad idea that decided to pound a bottle of vodka and turn into a nightmare idea.

I don't believe this is true unless the trades are one or multiple of Altuve, Alvarez, Walker, Hader, McCullers, and/or Valdez. Signing Bregman means we're going to be over the cap. We'd have to group Pressly, Caratini, Dubon, and McCormick at the beginning of the season - not middle.

Altuve injury chances increase with him in the OF, in my opinion. I envision him running after balls thinking he's prime Springer. Not a fan of this idea

There is a way to get under the cap. It's called a "deferral". It's a novel new idea.

Seriously. Get some guys to redo their contracts and defer the **** out of them.

Jose? Brother you have a massive one and obviously love this team and town. Take the lead and kick your salary can the **** down that road.

You want to resign here Alex? Defer the ever loving crap out of your new contract. 6/150 and you get $2MM a year now and the rest in 10 years.

Josh Hader? You were semi **** last year. Make up for it by deferring 2/3 of your contract.

The Dodgers are bending every other team over and going in dry with these deferred contracts. Santander just deferred his. Heck Profar did it. It's time to get with the program.

Do the Marlins still need to add payroll? Maybe we can trade them Montero and some mid-tier prospect for a couple of lotto tickets. Then if we can trade Pressley and Caratini, you've cleared funds for Bregman.

Won't happen. And I'm not sure I'd want it to. While I'd like to have Bregman's bat back, the defensive situation gets pretty murky.

I think MathGuy has a point. We need to get into the deferred game to stay under the cap.

Let's give Breggy his 6/200, but only pay him 10 a seasons and deferred 140 M between 2032 to 2044. If I did the math right, that puts the present day value at 6/144 with an AAV of 24.

If Altuve wants Bregman back so bad, have him restructure with some deferrals. I'm not saying it's the smart thing on either side, but if that's the way the game is played...

I can buy that Altuve offered the idea. I can't buy that they would take him up on it. I think it's more likely they would put Parades out there.
