Bregman may not be the same hitter as Santander, but makes your infield defense better and brings more leadership qualities to the clubhouse. He also shouldn't be expected to strike out as much, and likely has a better eye at the plate.

If Bregman isn't getting any buyers at a longer term than we offered him, and he has to "settle" for a shorter term deal somewhere, I'm sure he'd rather be in Houston than Toronto or Detroit.

Of course this assumes Crane is willing to go over the luxury tax, which is the main argument (I think) Chandler is making. I also don't think Chandler believes Santander is a possibility.

And he may be right, although Crane has shown willingness to spend in the past for the right situation.

I truly believe Breg's power is on the decline, and I see it as a rather sharp decline. His command of thr strike zone faltered quite a bit last year too, possibly pressing too much in a contract year. He still plays a good 3b, so he would be an improvement there above Parades, but is that really worth a high AAV, even if only 1 year? Would he still not be pressing at the plate with the opt-outs in place? Would he have any hard feelings towards the org for not showing more faith in him and giving out more money/years, which I think absolutely was the right move to avoid?

I think it's time to cut bait. Thanks for the memories, Alex. Wish you would have taken our more-than-fair offer when it was on the table, and sorry that you listened to the wrong people/advice. Best of luck in the future against everyone but us.

Alex had pretty good late season stats. It's possible the earlier poor start was just a fluke. He should have at least 3 more competent seasons left

14 years to a players of Judges age is just a workaround for the CBT to get the AAV low. They're not wrong. It that **** has happened plenty elsewhere. It's not too dissimilar to what LA is doing with deferred.

Deferred is worse. MLB is crooked but so are most sports leagues these days, including the NCAA and ESPN. It's all rigged for ratings.

How is that any different from giving Soto 15 years? It brought the AAV down.

And as you mentioned the deferral for Shohei counts his AAV at about 61 cents on the dollar. $70MM/year but the AAV is about $43MM.

If it's true it's just Manfred and MLB favoring some clubs over others.

We could go sign Profar, Santander, Flaherty, Yates, & Pivetta aka the scraps of this free agent class, still be under their payroll, and win as many games as them. What they're doing isn't special. They're close to Japan and usually saying the highest #.

The only *good* thing about the Dodgers offseason is they are in the NL. The AL is wide open. Totally agree we should be trying to make those moves. Why not sign Flaherty and Santander then trade Framber for prospects? I get you are over the luxury tax again but at that point you have no pending free agents so the penalties is very small. Nowhere near as significant as what you gain.

In their mind since the Astros beat them in the WS after stealing Oscar's house and using it as a drum, the Dodgers 7 years later finally unleash their diabolical plan for retaliation on all of baseball by spending an insane amount of money on top tier talent to combat a team that is no longer together?

The flip side of that is if they would have won in 2017 they would just now resign themselves to being cellar dwellers spending no money because they would have that particular WS win that is so coveted by all of baseball that it still comes up every year like it is an infinity stone that they are all dying to have.
