Verdugo had 7 outfield assists last year

that would play well with the current outfield crew

I figured it would be for Alek Thomas. I suppose who we would potentially get would depend on any prospects or the amount of cash we send.

This was my idea to target to platoon with Jake. Terrible season so value is super low but his batted ball #s show a huge potential bounce back. I see no way Pressly gets you Jake. Why would the Dbacks do that?
They just traded for Grae "0-for-2024" Kessinger, so who can say?

Wasn't there clamoring for him to be benched in the 2nd half? I'm thinking a lot of his good play happened in the first month of the season and then he went to absolute crap.

$10M for Verdugo seems insane on someone whose likely a platoon player

Let's get weird on how we finish this offseason

1. Pressly to the DBacks for Alec, Monty, & 6-7 M. This replaces the innings for Framber (see #2), gives Jake a platoon mate, & stays fairly close payroll wise.
2. Framber to Baltimore, Boston, New York M, etc for a nice prospect haul. This makes #3 not hurt as much in the system and gets us under the tax.
3. Now we have the prospect haul to trade for Brendon Donovan.

The SP & BP get a little worse, but Monty could make it close with a bounce back. The lineup is now one of the best in baseball. The lefty shortage is gone. You can play matchups in all 3 OF spots with Dezenzo/Donovan(more of an everyday guy), Jake/Alec, & Chas/Turmmell. Donovan lines up perfectly with the 3 year window upcoming.

That would be a finish to the offseason worthy of unseating Jerry Dipoto or AJ Preller in the GM chaos rankings.

How much playoff money have Springer and Correa left on the table by not being Astros? Enough to make a difference? Something for Bregs to think about?

Probably not. Less than 500,000 if they win it all.

Losing Framber makes our SP a lot worse, not a little

I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

I guess his desire to play for a winning team diminished. He's taking the Kris Bryant route.

winning matters to
1) young players trying to get established
2) fans
3) a very small handful of veterans

After 4 or 5 years all that really matters to the players is money
Its the same with my career. I loved my first company. After a while money was my guiding decision maker. Didnt want to work in a dumpster fire but enough money and i might.

It is only money

He needs to go to whoever is gonna give him years and cash at this point. I don't he can afford to do a short term deal because like someone else said, his numbers may be about to drop off big time, especially away from MMP

I'm in. If Pressly and Framber aren't in the long term plan, I'm all about dealing them for guys who can extend our window through 27-28… even if it means a slight step back in 2025.

Generally speaking, I think we need to exit the business of letting premium players walk via free agency and trade them with 1-2 years left while we can still extract nice hauls for them. Bregman should be the last one in that regard.

But now if I'm Toronto I'm playing hardball right back and low balling the shlt out of him.

At this point all his leverage is gone.

Is Click still on staff in Toronto?

with how analytics are these days it should be obvious to more players and agents that the contracts given out back in the day based on prior results just aren't going to fly anymore. Bregman and Boras should have seen this coming from a mile away with his recent injury problems, and declining numbers.

Now, instead of taking a deal and staying in Houston where he could've played out the rest of his career and gone down as an all time legend he now gets to rot his career away in Canada possibly. Thousands of miles away from family, newborn babies, tax hell, etc. Great job Boras and Bregs.

I'm here for one more title (25-27) and then let it all burn. Is there a limit to how many comp picks you can get in a single offseason. Because I may scenario you offer the qualifying offer to Paredes, Donovan, Javier, & possibly even Pena. Could you imagine the work that could be done with an extra 3-4 draft picks? Then you trade Yordan before his last year too and grab a few more prospects. Suck for 28, 29 then the young kids all hit in 30 and you go sign a bunch of top tier vets. The run starts all over again.

Most of that early season production was vs the Astros at Yankee Stadium on May 7, where he went 3-5 with 4RBI and a homer. I know because I was there.

What's the O/U on the final salary number? I am guessing less than $175M for 6 years.

I think he gets a Correa or Chapman deal. 3 years, opt outs after each year.

3/90 is my guess. Maybe 3/85 but with $10MM signing bonus.

Paying Bregman only to lose Vlad Jr. is gonna suck for Toronto, but maybe Click can work some magic. Boston seems destined to take over the AL again eventually assuming they sign Guerrero next year.

something went very, very wrong

he needs to take a 1-year deal and reenter the market next season

No it will be worse for him next year. He needs to take the highest value no matter the amount of years now.

Not just that but they have spring training in Florida rather than Arizona.

But if the offers are 8/200 in TOR or 6/165 in DET, which one are you doing?
