Don't yell at me please this is an honest question: if we trade Tuck why can't be resign Breggy
That would be such a nice pivot to go all in in 2025 yet extend it to 26 and 27.SpaceCityAg05 said:
The bigger the deal, the harder it is to pull off, but it is fascinating to think of the possibility of pulling off a trade where (approximately, not counting prospects possibly needed to level things out) you send Tucker and Pressly out to Chicago (plus losing Bregman in FA) and get Paredes, Suzuki, and Bellinger in return.
You would be right at the tax line, one reliever short, but have traded one lineup mainstay for three to lengthen your lineup AND your window:
C Diaz
1B Singleton (move Belli to 1B and put Meyers/Dubon in CF against LHP)
2B Altuve
3B Paredes
SS Pena
LF Suzuki
CF Bellinger
RF McCormick
DH Alvarez
That is suddenly a much deeper lineup. If you drop the Pressly/Bellinger part, it is still an upgrade and you can flip Pressly another way that doesn't increase payroll like Belli.
We can, but with the way free agency is going Bregman might be going for much more than our 6/156 offer. Even if we upped it, teams might go over the top.wehnerhigh20 said:

Astros have had discussions with Cubs about Suzuki, Paredes & prospect Cam Smith.
Yankees “prepared to make big offer” for Tucker, a league source says: https://t.co/5zkqncK8g8

This might help a lot having two desperate teams that will have to outbid each other

Is it really a "rebuild' with some of the trade options being discussed?ChAg1799 said:wehnerhigh20 said:

Would Bregman want to be a part of a "rebuild" if we traded Tucker?
That's why I said start with those 2 words.SpaceCityAg05 said:
To me, that would just be the opening round for me to consider it over the Cubs supposed offer.

If Tuck is gone, how do we all feel about his 6-ish seasons? WS champ, caught the final out, and all star (almost as a floor) in the regular season. It feels like we selling just at the peak of his value, but his prime is top 5-10 position player.
He won't have the same legacy as Springer, but everything you could expect for a top 5 draft pick. Luhnow and his team knew how to pick em, for the most part.

He wasn't clutch very often in the playoffs so he didn't have those big moments like Springer had.

I am ok with this deal, I think, as a Cubs fan. They are kind of a mess right now to be honest. All over the board.SpaceCityAg05 said:
That is the second story (they obviously parrot the same reports) that mentions Paredes, Suzuki, and Cam Smith for Tucker. Surely the Cubs aren't dumb enough to give us all three for Tucker, are they?
I get that the Soto sweepstakes has everyone in a fever pitch, but if anything like that is on the table, Dana better shake on it before they come to their senses. Smith looks to be ML ready in 25/26 and would allow you to then slide Paredes to 1B.

2 HRs in the WS?
Yeah, I don't really get what Chicago is doing.10andBOUNCE said:I am ok with this deal, I think, as a Cubs fan. They are kind of a mess right now to be honest. All over the board.SpaceCityAg05 said:

I would hope they genuinely pursue an extension but seems unlikely after what Soto just got.
Fair. He outperformed Reddick in the 19 WS and probably should have played more. He killed it vs the White Sox as you mentioned. He had a big HR off Castillo in 22. And had a strong CS vs Boston in 21.Cynic said:Farmer1906 said:Frok said:linkdude said:

I
I think he had a great series against the White Sox in 2021 as well.
But not many iconic moments that some others have had.
I still wish we could keep him though.
