Well they can all tell him what a cool guy he is when 43,000 people boo his ass 81 time a year.
Seems to work fine for Altuve

This is why IMO you go in for 25 then a few more years after. You can survive without Framber if a combination of get good Javier back, McCullers isn't dead, Brown staying about what he was last year, Spaghetti keeps developing, and/or we add some kind SP talent via FA or trade.

We cannot replace Tucker. There just isn't a stud like him on the market unless you get Soto. But you can still add to the offense and keep it good with a combination on FA signings and trades.

Unless Dana can perform a miracle with the draft and minors, the gig is up in 2027-28ish.

On the flip side, if we really "go for it" for a couple more years, it will only deepen the hole we have to climb out of when the dark days return (and they will return--we will never be able to money whip decent teams together like NYY, NYM, LAD).

So you gotta ask yourself what the realistic chances are of making deep runs? WC or 1st Rd bounces are complete wastes of limited resources and buying potential; e.g., Kooch pitched out of his ass for us last year, but for what? He never even got to pitch in the playoffs and we gave up solid (at least tradeable) pieces for him. Hindsight is 20/20, yeah, but these types of moves will tank us deeper, quicker, longer.

With the team LA is has (been allowed to) put together, I wonder if it would be prudent to begin the rebuild now. That's what I lean towards anyway.

I think it's fairly realistic. Look at the rest of the AL. Who are you scared of? I think it's worth trying to win now because rebuilds don't guarantee anything. We have some great players. Crane is willing to spend now. Even a mediocre GM can make this last a little longer.

I agree with this. I'm typically a guy that wants the long-term success, but all of this talk of a soft rebuild by trading away Tucker and Framber is silly. Wasting prime Yordan for a soft rebuild is extremely silly in my book. The ONLY way it works is if the guys you get back contribute in the same year and are close in the aggregate to what we give up.

My opinion is if you're going to do a soft rebuild, you might as well just sell Yordan and a few of the young starters and start all over. The purgatory of always being an 85 win team year after year with no real shot at winning a championship is worse than 3 years of purely terrible baseball.
You are going to need Yordan in 2026 and beyond but I agree if you go all in in 2025 just to lose Tucker and Framber for a couple draft dart throws then at that point you might as well trade Yordan in the offseason because 2026 is when you start fighting to be a .500 team.

I have been giving more thought to the Bellinger idea since itis getting so much chatter. Ignoring the cost side of things (obviously not insignificant), I am just looking at fit on roster management.

Originally, my thought was that Bellinger would replace Singleton on the roster. But given our other pieces, I wonder of the smarter move wouldn't be to play Belli in CF against RHP, with Singleton at 1B, and Belli at 1B against LHP, with Meyers/Dubon in CF. (This presuming Chas in LF).

Belli is not an extreme platoon split guy, so you could use him to balance our more extreme platoon producers lile Singleton, Meyers, and Dubon.

Spot on.

I'd still get rid of Singleton to play Caratini or add another lefty who can mix in there. Move versatility the better.

Jon Heyman is a Boras mouthpiece. If you believe the rumors, Mendoza's son or someone related to him leaked on TikTok the Mets offer is 15/700...lot of speculation so who knows. The Yankees can, doubt they will, It makes no sense for Toronto (you are going to offer him that money and not consider extending the guys you have already? ...a point brought up on MLB network today), Red Sox...perhaps...

Money is no object to Steve Cohen and him and Boras have a strong relationship, so I expect the Mets get last look, and I doubt much if any is deferred. I would expect an unworldly bonus though.

Speaking of, can someone explain to me how bonuses calculate into collective bargaining penalties?
Farmer1906

Bonuses are apart of the AAV calculation.

If Bregman gets 20 M per season over 6 with a 36 M bonus then his AAV is still 26 M.

Certainly decisions like Singleton have to take into account any other additions, major or minor, but I think a player like Belli could serve to bridge platoon splits at multiple positions instead of just one position.

I find it interesting we aren't hearing much on lower tier free agents. I would think a Walker - Kim combo makes more sense for this team as opposed to paying $150+M for Bregman. Hope this Bregman thing ends soon so we can move on.

For the $150M you would have to pay Bregman, you could have Christian Walker, Kim and Bellinger (putting aside luxury tax considerations).

I don't think you could get those 3 for under 150. I would guess closer to 250 than 150. Even still you'd be taking that money in a shorter amount of years. We don't see major "cap" relief until after 2025.

I've seen Kim projected around 4 years $60M, Walker around 3 years $50M and Belli is making $27M. If you dump Pressly that would put you around $250M this year.

I'd also be looking at signing a pitcher and flipping Framber. Maybe you get a guy like Eovaldi on a two year deal then trade Framber to the Orioles for O'Hearn and Kjerstad to get some lefty bats and saves you money as then you don't have to sign Walker (who also has a QO).
