I'll actually be really surprised if that's the opening day outfield.
I think either Altuve is in LF on opening day and either Bregman or Arenado are at third base or they make a trade for an OF by then.

The deal would include Montero.

Quote:
All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman, who has said he would love to stay in Houston while the Astros share the same sentiments, haven't moved towards a reunion since November.
Now, after it has become clear that the Mets and Astros aren't budging from their offers, it's now decision time, with Alonso expected to return while Bregman departs and goes elsewhere.
...
Bregman's free agency has been more complicated, with the Astros offering a six-year, $156 million deal forAlonso(he meant Bregman) in November, telling him to take it or leave it. Bregman never took it. The Astros, tired of waiting for an answer, not only traded for third baseman Isaac Paredes from the Chicago Cubs, but signed Gold Glove first baseman Christian Walker.
The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox have aggressively pursued Bregman this winter, with the Red Sox offering a four-year deal, according to the Boston Globe, while the Tigers are offering at least a five- or six-year deal.
...
Yet, while there appeared to be momentum towards a possible reunion, nothing has changed. The Astros have not altered their six-year, $156 million proposal, or even formally put their offer back on the table.
Astros GM Dana Brown continues to say it's a "long-shot,'' and Bregman shares the same viewpoint with close friends.
It now may be down to whether Bregman wants to receive a lucrative contract from the Detroit Tigers and play for former Astros manager A.J. Hinch, or go to second base and play in Boston for former Astros bench coach Alex Cora.
"We're not done," Scott Harris, Tigers president of baseball operations, told reporters on a zoom call Thursday. "We're going to try to find new ways to make this team better, and there are a number of ways to do it … Bullpen and our lineup are two areas we're going to look to upgrade, if we can."
Meanwhile, the Cubs lurk just in case Bregman suddenly changes his mind and is interested in a short-term deal.
...
The stare-down for Alonso and Bregman and their former clubs soon should be nearing a merciful end.

They should erase the brick reds from history. Worst Astros uniform of all time.
Ummm the white pinstripes with the cursive "Astros" would like a quiet word with you. They believe they have a valid claim to that particular trophy.
The unique deal pays King $1 million with a $3 million signing bonus and a $15 million mutual option with a large buyout, per @sdutKevinAcee, giving the Padres payroll flexibility in 2025 to avoid trading him. He’s eligible for free agency after the season. https://t.co/4JRR135AgV

I've always thought that the entry ushers at MMP should pull anyone aside who's entering wearing the brick red crap and give them a free $25 gift card to the team store for them to go buy new merch, confiscate what they had on, and burn all the collected brick red merch.
That way eventually it'll all be phased out and wiped away.
Translation: Alex Bregman has a 6-year offer from the Tigers that is similar to the one the Astros have offered, but it's not the AAV he's looking for and/or he doesn't want to sign there. Tigers have reportedly balked at AB2's asking price per multiple reports. https://t.co/swXwCsCWy1

My gut is he wants to stay here but he (and Boras) can't bring themselves to accept the 6/156 offer that's a pay cut from what he made last year.

It's a pay increase over his previous 20 AAV contract, in which his stats were much better than 2024
The whole "I won't take a pay cut" argument is BS

He hasn't played to the value of his contract since 2019 and shows no sign of being capable of doing it in the future. And no amount of Farmer waiving WAR in my face will change my mind on that opinion.
