That would likely be the best 7/8 hitter in all of baseball.

Ha, I do think there's some truth to that. The only counterpoint I could come up with is catcher specifically is very hard to project. So much value at that position is in the nuance on the defensive side.

Counterpoint: If teams are just going online and looking at prospect rankings to make trades, that's completely on them.

After hearing about how the Jets avoided moves based on Madden ratings, wonder how many teams are getting info based on their rating on MLB the show

If you got 2022 Chas in the 7 hole I'd be very confident in that lineup

Altuve
Pena
Alvarez
Walker
Diaz
Peredes
McCormick
(hopeful addition in LF)

Good for Charlie Fn Morton. Wasn't he supposed to retire when he left the Astros?

Houston should retire his number for what he did in game 7 in the ALCS and game 7 of the world series in 2017.

Nah. But he should go into the Astros HOF for that.

It'll be interesting to see how many of the 2017-2022 guys go into the Astros HOF. I wonder how selective they will be
Altuve is in, no matter what. Springer, probably. Less sure about Correa and Bregman, but those are likely the only ones.

Verlander? Maybe

The HOF vs the Astros HOF are very different.

They inducted Caminiti. I loved him but he sets the bar pretty damn low.
See, I didn't know what the bar was for the team's hall

If we could get .245-250 from Chas and .230-235 from Jake, with both hitting 15-20 HRs, I'd be ecstatic. I think a rebound is in order for Chas. Jake needs to improve his 2-strike approach. He was absolutely trash once he got two strikes on him.

I wonder how much pride, on both sides, is involved at this point?

Perhaps a little humility, on both sides, would go a long way.

If the Astros upped their first offer not sure what they would have to be humble about.

No official stat, but I can't imagine another hitter in baseball who fell behind 0-2 as many times as Jake did. It was comical at times. The last 2 months of the season, it was close to 3 times a game.

I doubt it's much on our side, more of a question of where he fits now that we have effectively moved on. We don't need a 3B and are at the luxury tax limit.

Abreu was the most amazing guy at finding himself down 0-2

Meyers 2024 8.8% of plate appearances he started 0-2. 513 pas

Abreu 2024 -14.3%
Abreu 2023 - 13.0%
Abreu 2022 - 10.3%
Abreu 2021 - 11.7%

The HOF vs the Astros HOF are very different.

They inducted Caminiti. I loved him but he sets the bar pretty damn low.
See, I didn't know what the bar was for the team's hall

I think the Astros Hall of Fame is basically about ownership, fan, and former player feelings, marketing, and merch. Actually baseball production falls after that.

Craig Biggio was really close to Caminiti and so was Bagwell. I bet they lobbied hard to get Ken in, who was also a fan favorite. So, it isn't baseball prowess that got Caminiti in, but the two most famous Astros lobbying.

For this reason, I bet Darryl Kile gets in.

Verlander (Crane will put him in), Altuve, and Yordan are locks for Astros Hall.

Springer is probable as it appears fans/management are the least bothered on how he left and he was a World Series mvp.

I think with who Bregman signs with and what he says about his time with the Astros will strongly influence his Astro hall chances.

Correa is the hardest to read.

But then again Altuve could lobby for any of those guys, fan sentiment wants them, or a 2017 anniversary class event puts some or all in.

The real dark horse is Yuli. Who I could see especially if there is a big anniversary for the 2017 World Series team.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they just put the WS winning teams in as a whole and side step this issue.

In this scenario, Verlander/Altuve/Yordan would also be inducted as individual players.

Say in 2037 for the 20th anniversary for the 2017 team and 2042 for the 2022 team?

That plan would be to pay luxury tax…which Crane supposedly really doesn't want to do. They have a plan for where to play those three guys, but not a plan to sign all three without going over the luxury tax threshold.

Jeff Bagwell 91-95
26.6 WAR

469 RBI

Yordan Alvarez 19-24
23.3 WAR
166 wRC+
164 HR
466 RBI
2668 PA

How much of that 91-95 Bagwell data set if from that 94 season? That partial season was the greatest RHH season I have ever seen. Without the broken hand and strike it would have assaulted the record books in ways never seen.
It is a staggering exercise in what-ifs. The season ended after 113 games, Bagwell had played 110.

Simple stat projections to 162 games for him
573 AB
149 runs scored
211 hits
46 doubles
56 HR
166 RBI
22 SB
93 BB
93 K
.368 / .451 / . 750

The all-time bummer of the season is that the strike cost Tony Gwynn a legit shot at .400. The Padres had played 117 games and he was hitting .394

Gwynn was on pace for 228 hits. He entered August hitting .385 and had started the month hitting .475 through 10 games (19 for 40).

He missed the last two games after the broken hand and before the strike. If you prorate it at 110 games instead of 113 it's even more amazing.

It would have been greatest RHH seasons of all times. He projected to be the only hitter to have 216 hits, 57 HR, 153 runs scored and 171 RBI. Nobody has ever had that combo of those 4 stats ever. His OPS+ was. 216. At the time only Hornsby has ever gotten that high.

The 94 strike may have also very well ended the Expos dynasty before it had a chance to begin. 30 years later, it still turns my stomach.
