To me that isn't the sole deciding factor. Better has a statue in the baseball hall. This thing at our ball field is more like the Cowboys ring of honor. Not everyone on it is in the HOF, but those that are on it have a lot over an extended period to the team.

I think you will find yourself in the vast minority with this opinion. We all love Beltre, and deserves the Hall of Fame. That's not why you build a statue of a player at a stadium.

Young was the face of the franchise for over a decade, through the downtimes and our 2 world series appearances.

Added this bit because I didnt want to seem overly negative. Ff we want to have them both get one to go with Nolan Ryan, I would be for that as Im not saying Beltre should not ever get one. Just not before Young.

Eventually needed one of Seagars home run with him yelling right after it left the bat.

He would need to retire a Ranger, then be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Ranger. He does that, then that statue is definitely happening.

Yea thats whats so bizarre about that World Series.
We will all remember it forever, but weren't really attached to any of the players prior to it.

NSIAP, but I've been thinking the same thing (and this is in no way a gripe about last season). Totally arbitrary number, but I looked at the number of players on the 2011 roster with at least 5 seasons with the club vs. the 2023 team:

2011:

  • Young (12 seasons)

  • Oliver (10 seasons, 3 stints)

  • Wilson (7 seasons)

  • Feldman (7 seasons)

  • Kinsler (6 seasons)

  • Lewis (5 seasons, 2 stints)

  • Cruz (5 seasons)

  • Murphy (5 seasons)

2023:

  • Perez (9 seasons, 2 stints)

  • Leclerc (7 seasons)

Just a nostalgic observation, but thought it was interesting.

Yep 2011 was the best team because we all knew them forever. Hate they didn't get it done.

Team has been injury plagued the last 2 years. Let's try to focus on health for once and come back next year ready to go.

On the "Good News Front" it seems more and more likely the Rangers will get a 2025 Lottery pick... and whichever Aggie or SEC player we want.

I believe we currently have the 6th worst record, with the CWS and A's ineligible... so that puts us 5th.

We could still get passed by the Angels.and Nats.

CWS and A's are ineligible for the Lottery because they were in it in 2024 (can't do consecutive years).

SO... there is that.

Went to the game last night and my son saw his first drunk puking his guts up in the men's room with his head in a urinal before finishing off on the floor.

My son: should we get help for him?

Me: no, he's a clown and will hopefully one day learn where his limits are.

Not sure he understood that.

Be pretty sweet to see Jace in right field in Arlington.

Long term outfield of Carter, Langford and Jace would hypothetically be pretty good.

What we really need is some of our pitching prospects to come through for us for the first time in forever though.

Anyone else watching the LLWS? Our Texas team has a good chance to get to the championship game. It's also great when the MLB players interact with all the kids.

Was at the Astros game last night with my family, and watching them is night and day versus watching us. They not only have 4+ dudes in their lineup having great years (future HOFers), but they just have a winning culture that is unmatched in the MLB in my opinion. It doesn't matter who they sign or who they bring up, they are indoctrinated in a winning culture then live up that that winning culture. Shay Whitcomb is a nobody who made his debut, and what does he do? Goes out and absolutely laces a double and single and scored twice. We need to get to a better winning culture and have it permeate through the levels.

What's the deal with Evan Grant talking about Chris Young being harder and harder to sign to a deal the longer he goes without an extension? Are we really in danger of losing him?

I feel like this tv situation is causing some uncertainty that wouldn't otherwise be there. The guy waltzed in and won a ring, so even though they backtracked this season, there has to be a good market for CY
Mr Gigem
How long do you want to ignore this user?

It tells me one of two things.

1. They are just waiting until the end of the regular season to make a deal

2. Writing is on the wall that no type of TV deal is going to get done so ownership is going to be strapped for cash and won't be able to sign players, resulting in CY leaving for greener pastures
DannyDuberstein

And it's not just team payroll to work with if cash strapped, it's how much you can actually pay him as a front office guy if cash-strapped.

Why can't we get a decent tv deal? Makes no sense to me.

Uncertainty is the devil when trying to land a deal, and the model for these local sports broadcasts/networks is in chaos right now due to cord-cutting. Different markets being in different states of happiness/chaos also makes it hard for baseball to do it in a unified way
MrCoachEricTaylor

It'd be cool if Jerry Jones would invest in his own network. Kind of how the Stros/rockets have. I feel like he'd have a pretty good return due to the demand of it.. not that he really cares too much about the need for it in our area.

I'm not sure I buy the "no TV deal, no money for players" narrative.

In the first place, MLB has already said they'll stream the games (& pay the team accordingly), precisely in the same way that they have for the Padres and Diamondbacks. Granted, the money won't be the same - probably $70mil as opposed to the $100mil they were getting from Bally, but I think a decrease was and should've been anticipated. Some of the narrative that I've seen seems to suggest that the Rangers will get no TV money at all, and that's simply not true. It just won't be as much. As for local/regional broadcasts, they might well have to do it for less money than in the past, but still - someone will want to step up and carry the games.

I would be more inclined to think if the Rangers are going to use that as an excuse, it would be because they don't WANT to spend more (or as much) on salaries as they are currently - and not because they can't.

As far as CY is concerned, I'd be shocked if he left. I heard it discussed by Jeff Wilson, and it sounded much more like a hypothetical than a real concern. He simply pointed out that CY's contract is up at the end of the season - he didn't say he was leaving or anything, just that it was something to keep an eye on.

I don't understand how the tv deal impacts us this much. Is the tv deal that massive of a factor? Astros have no trouble with money and last time I checked they didn't have a massive tv deal. We are doing pretty good with payroll now but there was a period of years where we had a top 3 tv deal yet we're spending in the bottom half in payroll.

The Astros deal with AT&T was for $73MM a year.

I think people are severely discounting how big of a deal the uncertainty around television revenue is.

But as one of the posters above said, it's not like we are going to end up with zero tv revenue. We will get "most of" whatever the current deal, whether Bally/Diamond pays it or if we end up with the MLB deal. I think this year we took a 10% or so cut from Bally/Diamond as a part of their overall negotiations. Not where things stand moving forward other than it is "uncertain" as to how much tv $$ will be available for 2025, but they should have a pretty decent idea what the floor is based on how SD/Arizona got paid by the MLB.

If that guy got that drunk AT the Ranger game T&P for his credit card bill when he sobers up and takes a look. Kinda pricey to get that loaded at a sporting event these days, unless you do a pretty solid job warming up during a pre-game tailgate
