Let's tap the brakes...
Sandler discussed this in the post-Game.
Langford is hitting .245 with a .327 OBP.
League average right now is like .240. I forget what he said the league average was for OBP, but he indicated Langford was above it. If you look at TEAM OBP in the AL, the Yankees are leading the league at .327.
As most of us have seen, scoring and hitting is down this year and it is league wide. He gave some statistics, but I was in the car and don't have the memory I used to. His numbers compared through April 2024 with through April in other years and said the numbers were noticably down. That takes out the idea that the warmer summer months might inflate the numbers. Has it been seasonably cooler this year? My garden says yes.
Doing my own looking:
https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/AL/bat.shtml2024 AL: .233 BA, .306 OBP, .377 SLG, .684 OPS
2023 AL: .247 BA, .317 OBP, .412 SLG, .729 OPS
2022 AL: .242 BA, .309 OBP, .392 SLG, .701 OPS
2021 AL: .245 BA, .316 OBP, .415 SLG, .731 OPS
That's an 8.5% drop in SLG and a 6% drop in OPS.
<Note-to-self: OPS+ is the best statistic, but it isn't listed>

Regarding the Rangers, let's start with SLG. Sandler mentioned LST
18. Langford: .298
19. Seager: .301
20. Taveras: .301
Heim: .410 <- 4th on the team and just noted to give perspective on the other 3.
They are: 18th, 19th, and 20th at the BOTTOM.
Notables:
7. Arozarena: .255
12. Garver: .271
13. Bregman: .273
Sandler mentioned that if your SLB starts with a 2... you are either the #9 hitter... OR... you are no longer on the team. Ok... fair enough with Taveras.

He said that scouting on Seager last year was that he hit everything well. He is down breaking/curve balls in '24. He recognized like most of us, that Seager missed most of ST and probably still ramping up. We all know he is likely still recovering from his surgery. I think we all agree, he has gotten more days off than would otherwise be normal, and it is likely a reflection on Bochy knowing he isn't quit back to himself. We all know Bochy is loyal to a fault and likely continues the same path. We can probably all agree Seager probably needs to be told to sit for a 10IL stint to work his way back.
Personally, I think with Langford... he has been eager and likely topping the ball resulting in a low launch angle (I could be wrong... didn't look it up). Last year, Bochy to Jung that he was going to struggle but that he was going to be his guy in the #5 spot no matter what.
When letting Langford know he made the team, we saw Bochy tell him (with CY present) that it was their expectation after the 2023 season, that Langford would make the club out of ST. I can't help but believe there was a similar converstation with Langford as was had with Jung.
As most of us agree, once Langford gets that 1st HR, he'll get them in bunches.
Last point... the Rangers are #3 or #4 in the AL for almost every team batting statistic. And yet, our MVP-2 from '23 is 19th in SLG and we have 3 of the 20 worst in SLG. Yikes.
Hitting is down in 2024...likely a deadened ball, or a ball no longer juiced. Langford and Seager are both struggling despite the Rangers hitting well as a team... which means, when those 2 get rolling, we should be in for a very exciting run.
