rbtexan opened my eyes to him. He's been really good this year.

Hard part is if he's on the 40 man. If not they have to make a move.

It's painful to watch. I really like the guy and want him to succeed.

I don't think he makes the 40 this year, but he's a guy to potentially watch for next year to crack the rotation. That Elvis trade may end up being as good as the Texeira trade if he pans out.

Didn't we get Heim from that trade? Already worth it!
gigem1223

Yep. The Elvis Andrus and Joey Gallo trades are paying pretty big dividends for this team.

What is with the recurrent theme of our pitching staff getting totally rocked by one guy over and over?

The Astros won several games because of Yordan alone. Langeliers single handedly won a game for the A's and now this no name scrub who I've never had of gets 7 RBI's in one night on us.

This Braves series was probably going to be a struggle with it coming at the tail end of our 17 games in 17 days stretch. Really hoping we can claw out one win.

The Foscue injury hurt because it exposed us to wendzel.

Wyatt Langford being meh
Evan Carter platooned
Jung hurt
Duran subreplacment
Wendzel 0fer the season
Foscue injury

A bench with jank/kniz/walsh

Means this lineup has big problems against lhp

We might need to put Seager in the injured list or something. He doesn't look good at all and has no power.

When is Lowe back? That would help. Obviously Jung being out leaves a hole in our lineup.

I look at it as the Lowe, Jung, and Foscue injuries have given Wendzel an opportunity for us to see what he has.

He has 1 So in 11 AB over 5G. I think once he gets that 1st H, he'll string several together.

I think Langford has been fine. The issue is needing Langford to bat in the three hole because you don't have anyone else who profiles to bat in that spot. Langford possesses the skills and ability to hit there, but he's a 22 year old rookie who's still figuring out everyday MLB pitching. Then on top of that the other guy you need to slug (seager) looks really off for some reason. So we are getting zero slug from the two and three spots. That's the biggest issue with this lineup right now. Evan Carter is also pretty lost at the plate imo.

ETA: I think losing Garver is playing out it be a pretty big loss.

DallasAg 94

That's unfortunate and surprising.

His 4.15 ERA in 2023 would have put him 15 in the AL for ERA, if he had less than 15 more IP to "Qualify."

He had 8 GS in 2023 where he went 5+ IP with 0 ERs.

I was shocked to hear last night that Langford has only swung at two pitches outside the strike zone ALL season. He and Carter have elite plate discipline that will play out well over 162 games.

This lineup will be just fine once Jung is back.
Tksymm7

True, but they have to start turning their plate discipline into swinging at good pitches and then hitting those good pitches with authority. I think Langford is well on his way, but have no clue about Carter right now. He watches soooo many great pitches.

Keep in mind Ps go on a 15IL, It was retro to the 11th, IIRC, which means he won't be available until the 26th. With the day off, he could have probably just missed 1GS.

Evan Grant apparently gave an update, but I don't subscribe:

https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/rangers/2024/04/19/in-pitching-pinch-texas-rangers-option-jack-leiter-back-to-minors-and-recall-owen-white/

Rangers are always cryptic and private about returns. I like they were able to give Leiter a GS. I'm hoping with OWhite, he gets a multi-inning chance. Maybe not the GS, but certainly a 3-4 IP.

As Tksymm7 mentioned above, the Rangers could be taking this time to evaluate some guys.

IMO, Ragans never got the true chance to get GSs and likely wasn't going to at least in 2023. Once we picked up Monty and Scherzer Ragans wasn't going to get a real appearance down the playoff hunt.

Same could happen in 2024. Now that Lorenzen is available... if Scherzer is back in 2 weeks, we've talked about all the SP we'll have, which is great.
Eovaldi-Bradford-Dunning-Gray-Heaney
+Lorenzen
+Scherzer
+ Mahle
+ deGrom

What many of us have forgotten is, that as Leiter, OWhite, ColeWinn, and many other bump up against being ready, we really need to get a chance to see what we have. Especially if we are looking at trade desdline deals.

I think Bradford may get a little more rest for his back than necessary.

I heard on the radio the great Eric nadel give his thoughts on Langford a few days ago before a game and he said he's not really surprised that he hasn't "torn the league up" yet. He said the big difference between spring training and regular season is in the regular season pitchers are actually following scouting reports and trying to get you out, but in spring training they're usually working on things, just getting revved up, or lower skilled guys just trying to make the club.

He also said that Mike trout struggled with mlb pitching for his first 2 months and didn't look good.

Hopefully all of that should put as at ease. It's coming, he's just gotta work thru some adjustment / growing pains.

Trout was 19.

In 2011, he went: 40G, .220, 5HR, 4SB, .281 OBP, .672 OPS

While I expect Langford to settle in fine, I'm not sure Trout is the one I'd compare.

Having said that... Langford is hitting .253. Not an All-Star, but certainly reassuring he belongs.

You can usually tell pretty quickly on a hitter at this level based on how competitive their at bats are. Mike Olt is a good contrast to Langford. Hyped up prospect (though not the same hype or projection as Langford) and you could tell within a few games he wouldn't make it. Evan Carter, Langford have come up and put good at bats out there far more often than not. Langford's also built like a linebacker, so the pop will show up once he figures out how pitchers like to attack him.

It's pretty incredible that the defending world champs are starting a 21 and 22 year old regularly and still competing. Makes me optimistic about this year and especially the future.

Great to have Lowe back and hoping Huff sticks. This line up desperately needs a RH power bat.
