Alright, three outa four and I think we are all happy! We saw the tools in Leiter now just need him to mature and fine tune, some really dumb plays but they made dumber. Get on the plane, get your heads right and see if you can somehow win a series in Atlanta. I am not made for day baseball during the week more than once!

Whatever Boch said to the umpire, Jonah walked right by them and didn't bat an eye.

LAAA lost to Tampa.

We're 1.5 up in the Division and a full 5.0 G up over Houston.

That was probably our best series of the year. Every single thing we got was hard fought.

Very encouraging win. Bats woke up and came through late in the game. The record may not be very impressive but I'm very encouraged by how we have won these games. Last year was awesome but we still were not very good in winnings games that required runs late into the ball game. It appears we are improving on that aspect so far from last season.

To be fair, the ball is hard to pick up in the sunlight on TV.

But it happens to Raymond a lot, so I can't argue your point too much.
If Raymond had called teh Seager home run in Game 1 of the World Series, he would just not be calling it a home run.

I wouldn't mind seeing Leiter get another go at it. On the onehand, we are burning innings to get into the season. On the other, SPs like Lorenzen, Heaney, and Scherzer who are FAs after the season need to get some stats.

Probably a smoker? I could see some Benson & Hedges Menthol to cut the coffee & whiskey smell.

Maybe a cigar after the game.

This was cause of 3 of Leiter's "earned runs." A "triple"

It was a bad mistake that luckily didn't cost us the game. It did cost Leiter a better box score line, but he pitched how he pitched. I was oddly encouraged by Leiter's outing yesterday in all honesty.

I'll add this as well; I think there are areas of this team that are going to change between now and the end of the season. Not only pitching wise, but the outfield in particular. Like was discussed yesterday, I do wonder when they will start to work Carter into CF, because that's really where he needs to play. He doesn't and will never have the raw power to be a real corner outfielder, but by playing him in LF and having Langford DH, I think we are sacrificing some offense. Playing Carter in CF might sacrifice some initial defense, although I think he'll learn it at the MLB level sooner than later, but would then allow us to add a bigger bat to the lineup either in LF or at DH (if Langford plays everyday). This is probably the only field position spot I think we'll be in for.

The two things that I took away from his outing yesterday was

1) He battled back pretty well. With the adversity he ran into things were very close to being out of control, but props to him for getting the last out and coming back out and having a very quick 3rd inning. (Bonus note, in that bad 2nd inning only 2 of the hits came from bad pitches over the heart of the plate. The other 4 or 5 were off the plate or on the edge, including Greene's triple. That pitch was shin high and inside off the plate.)

2) His stuff played well. His FB, Slider, and Curve all drew multiple swings and misses if I'm not mistaken. And his velo was still hanging around 95 in his last inning of work around 80 pitches.

If he never even gets his glove on it, it's a hit. So yeah, it counts as a triple.

I think your concerns about Carter's defense are misplaced. He's not in LF because the team views him as not being a good (even great) CF, he's in LF because the incumbent at the CF position is coming off a really really good season. If there's concerns with Carter, it's that he's only had about 126 ABs at the MLB level, as compared to 1200 or so for Leody. Bochy isn't the kind of manager who's going to bench a proven player just because another guy has potential. He knows what he's got in Tavares and he was always (IMO) going to stick with him until either Carter plays himself into the CF position or Tavares plays himself out of it. Keep in mind that Langford is unproven at this point as well. I can't see Bochy starting the season off with two thirds of his starting OF being rookies.

I do think if Langford and Carter progress as expected, Tavares might well become expendable later in the season and may be a trade piece for either prospects or a SP. Just my 2 cents.

I'm happy with Leiter's outing. Obviously not thrilled... It was no Neftali Feliz debut... but some things to work on.

Pitched well in the 1st showing the actual stage didn't shake him.

Struck multiple major league hitters out.

Battled back on a few counts.

Had a solid inning after a bad inning to show he won't necessarily unravel.

Needs to work on hitting his spots and we'll obviously need to see how he looks in a normal, non-restricted/debut setting. He was using all his pitches from the start yesterday and that's typically not what you're going to see out of regular starters.

Do the Rangers make any roster moves today?

Lowe is at 24 ABs in the minors. I had thought I had heard they were ready to activate him. Maybe they wanted to wait and not have him fly up to Detroit and then off to Atlanta. He did play for RR @ Sugarland, last night. Is Wendzel the move there? I also was under the impression Lowe would get about 30 AB. Do you just wait and let him join back in Arlington to see Seattle?!

Not sure what they do with Leiter. Monday is a day off, so having a 6th man rotation isn't necessary. I'm not sure who you replace him with. Bradford can't be activated until the 26th. Do you keep Leiter up and give him another GS as a 6? Or maybe a RP appearance?! Anyone you bring in will likely be gone when Bradford returns?!

I'd bring in J. Hernandez; then when Bradford is ready you send out Pruitt.

Hopefully Heaney can go 5 innings today (he hasn't yet in his three prior starts). Urena went 3 yesterday, so he and Yates are both likely unavailable today. But if Heaney can't go very long today, the bullpen will get a heavy load. So I wouldn't mind seeing J. Hernandez (or somebody from RR) available today.

I'd like to Leiter stick around until Bradford comes back for 2 reasons. 1.) Get one more taste to build on, hopefully with better final line for his confidence. 2.) If Heaney is a disaster again it gives you some options for the next turn through.

Struck out the side in embarrassing fashion. Made first two batters look absolutely silly and the third batter couldn't catchup to the heat.

Regarding Lowe, I'd give him some more time to get his feet under him. He hasn't quite got the bat going yet (although he did go 2-4 last night). No need to rush him up though.

If Heaney sucks again today, it's time to send him to the pen and let Leiter take his spot the next time thru. Can then make some decisions when Bradford is healthy and Max is ready.

I'd also DFA Pruitt and bring up Hernandez. Not sure what the hold up is there
