And as much as sucked to lose GM 1 it all went about as expected.

Skubal shoved, we couldn't touch him, made some noise after he got yanked, kept battling and came up JUST short.

That's not far off from how I imagined this game would go.

Watching the Mets put the ball in play to the opposite field by any means necessary is crazy.

That's a lofty goal for this team. We have holes where we haven't used to having them this year. The lineup is not as long, injuries, age catching up to some, etc. I'll be ecstatic if we make it to the LCS, but we could be bounced tomorrow or Thursday. DET is the hottest team in the AL, maybe all of baseball. We also saw that in 2019.

You must assume we foul a couple off as they won't be takes.

We can complain about the short innings early for Skubal, but he was flat out filling it up early.

We actually had a lot of good patient at bats against him in the middle innings when he was not as consistent in the zone

All three batters in the 1st and all three batters in the 5th swung at one of the first two pitches. Three of those six outcomes happened on 1-0 and 0-0 counts. The pitches that Tucker, Dubon, Meyers and Altuve the second time (four of six outcomes) made outs on in those sequences were either borderline or not a strike. All of this as per the MLB app's Gameday interface.

Who's to say if the best pitcher in the league is on the mound as long as he was if they did literally anything else.

Skubal is damn good, not denying that. But denying the lineup its own agency for its failure is just missing a meaningful part of the story. It wasn't just "filling up the zone." They were who they've been all year. He just didn't make the mistakes they count on to overcome their lack of any other meaningful approach whatsoever.

I just want to take partial responsibility for the loss. I used my Astros tumbler this morning for my protein shake that has about a 0-5 streak going, but it worked almost all of last year's playoffs. I will not be using it tomorrow morning… please forgive me.

Chaz had a terrible 2024 but I trust him to put together a better AB than Meyers who has regressed to damn near worthless

I get the frustration with swinging early and often.

But Skubal fills the zone as much as anyone in the league. They should be swinging early and often. You can't sit there and look at strikes and get down in the count. That's a recipe for disaster.

There's nothing wrong with swinging at strikes.

Swinging early wasn't the problem. We fckd up by not making good solid contact when they did swing.
