Always have a soft spot for the A's since my mom grew up on the same street as Dick Williams and was good friends with him. He of course managed the A's to a pair of World Series titles in the early 70's. I got him to sign my glove when he was manager of the Padres in the early 80's when the Astros hosted them for a series in the Dome.

And no, I'm not named after him.

Anyway, 6.5 games up baby!!!

I actually feel much better about this team than last year at this point. Get KT back and we have a solid 1-4 (5 if Breggie performs). With starting pitching and bullpen as they are, it's hard not to be excited heading into playoffs.

Remind me of the playoff seeding. Division winners are 1, 2, and 3. Wildcards are 4, 5, and 6, regardless of their records compared to any of the division winners. There is no reseeding after each round, meaning a wildcard team will only have home field in the playoffs if they play a lower seeded wildcard. They would not have home field against a division winner, even if their record or H2H is better.

Correct. So as it stands right now, we would be the 3 seed playing against the 6 seed. Then we were matched up against the two seed in the ALDS.

Division winners get home-field over wild card teams throughout playoffs regardless of record. So let's say we make the World Series at 88-74 and we play San Diego who went 93-69. We'd get homefield because we won our division, even though they had the higher record.

Interesting discussion on KC on MLB radio. They question why KC picked up Tommy Pham. Apparently he came in and immediately questioned the clubhouse commitment to winning. And of course pissed off everyone in the clubhouse.

I said it at the time that he's a clubhouse cancer and questioned this move. Mathtradamus strikes again.
