I'm afraid this is what might happen with Tucker if he comes back. I know everyone points to him returning as the thing that turns the offense around, but unless he brings 5 clones of himself at peak productivity with him, I just don't see it happening.

The difference being that Julio is an incredibly streaky player by nature.

He gets absolutely scalding hot and goes on a 17 game hit streak batting .575 then turns into a pumpkin and goes 2 for his next 32. It all evens out to him being a decent slightly better than average player. People who think he is a superstar need to wake up.

I don't think it has anything to do with injury. That's just what he does.

Xander Bogaerts and his contract...

throw it on the pile

he turns 32 in October...and the natural decline is well underway

incredibly he's under contract for $25 MM per year thru 2033

kudos to the Red Sox for walking away

Unpopular take: I would have traded Tucker at the deadline.

Highly dependent upon the return, but I'm open to it over the offseason. Needs to be king's ransom, though (pun intended).

I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Given his injury you would have been trading way under value. Thats not a solution to our problem.

Per Spotrac, I would say Cleveland is getting some value for its payroll.

the front office seems reluctant to trade away players off the major league roster -- trade away non-rookies

hanging onto them too long and missing the window to deal them

4 of the 6 playoff teams in the American League

will come from the bottom half of payroll

Yikes. San Diego won't care if they ever win a title.

Boston has turned it around, but 3 years without making the playoffs won't cut it for their fan base. Hopefully we can have a faster turnaround here if/when the time comes to rebuild.

Young controllable talent is key. We have a mix of that but then high dollar guys and overpaid players who aren't producing to their pay rate

Like Lance hasn't thrown a pitch since game 3 of the 2022 World Series and has made $34M

Montero and Abreu are still making over $30M combined and they aren't even in the majors

I still chase the emotional high of watching my team throw a no-hitter in the World Series the night after they got blown out

speaking of Lance and his contract...

think about how much more of his salary he has retained this year by not playing

his $17.7 MM is only being subjected to federal income tax

he's not incurring any of the crazy professional athlete state taxes

that he would be if he pitched in road games in California, New York, Michigan, Canada, etc..,

That does help explain why he's so interested in never stepping on a field again.

The Philly media post game reactions after game 3 were basically where's the parade going to be and then after game 4 it was like Christmas got cancelled

Replace some of the AAAA batters in the lineup with average type MLB vets at this point like Gamel and Heyward. Not the worst idea

If we had more MFers getting on base regularly the offense would be less of a concern, imo, QED, Ibid, and so on

So far I've been impressed with Gamel's approach going the other way. Maybe some of the other vets like Altuve, Bregman, Dubon, etc. should try doing it especially hitting behind the runner going to second base from first. When's the last time we witnessed a hit and run?

I know you are probably sort of joking. And Lance is a sore topic around here. But I absolutely believe he wants to be on the mound again contributing to the team and not just sitting around hurt collecting a paycheck. Lance loves his city and his ball club.

Yeah if there's one guy who is chomping at the bit to get back as soon as possible it's Lance.

That's something I don't ever worry about with him. Dude loves to compete

Situational hitting like that would probably require a hitting coach encouraging them to do that. Unfortunately, our hitting coach seems to be telling these guys to try to pull sliders from the opposite batters box into the Crawford boxes. If that isn't what Cintron is coaching them to do, then he should be fired for not being able to convince them to quit trying it. If he is coaching that, then he should also be fired.

I've been thinking about Dubon the past few days. With his great bat to ball skills, he's a guy that can afford to be much more selective with what pitches he swings at since he could still foul off pitches down in the count.

I hope this is something he realizes during the offseason. It won't make him an all-star level player, but it would make him a good bottom of the line-up hitter.

I definitely think LMJ wants to be back. I just don't expect to ever see it happen at this point.

Short rehab in OKC next weekend then join us at MMP on September 10th. OR rehab in Sugarland while we play the A's then fly with us to LA to play the Angels starting September 13th

Wonder if this is another attempt to apply some pressure on Tucker. If so, yet more reason to look for a trade partner in the offseason, because I doubt he appreciates it. (if true)

WTF has happened to Joe's lineups?

He went from 'We gotta find a way to get Yanier and Victor in the lineup' to now Yanier isn't in the lineup at all.

Almost like the Bregman elbow thing scared him and now he's gun shy and wants to give everyone a day off.
