Maddux Was truly one of the greatest ever to do it , there's also no doubt he'd benefited from having a twenty four inch wide plate.
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

He made that plate wider better than any pitcher ever could.

I've just about convinced myself Neris tanked his season on purpose to come back here

Man though...Neris, Tucker, and potentially Kendall Graveman mean 3 DFAs are going to be needed, right? Is Chaz going to survive that purge?

And then Lu-ace, porn stasche, Javier and Urquidy next year.

Lot of tough decisions ahead.
For the short time, its gotta be Cabbage and Dubin.

Forgot about Graveman but also have Pressley and Ort coming back. Gonna be a logjam with Neris now.

After this stretch of numerous games without a day off, I bet we go back to a 5-man rotation, tell Arrighetti thanks and send him back down for one of the relievers set to come back.

True but he was so lethal I bet he could paint a true corner if he wanted to but why throw it there if Blue is going to give you 6-12 inches off the plate.

Him and Neris were quite the duo at one point

Corbin Burnes on the mound for the Orioles tonight

he's had a very good season -- 3.10 ERA

but a very bad month of August

The OP said DFA's and we don't have to DFA guys, just send them down except as it relates to Neris.

Neris will need someone cleared from the 40 man and that will result in a DFA. There are some options in minors or Ferguson could be a candidate. Pressly probably would likely send Dubin down. Gravemen may not even be coming back when we have to cross that bridge. Wouldnt surprise me to see Blanco to the pen to cut down on his innings. Tucker if he returns probably sends Cabbage down. But you could also send Dezenzo or Whitcomb back down.

I was talking in terms of the 40 man roster. I thought the 60 day DL guys didn't count toward the 40 man. So to bring guys like Tucker off the 60 day would require someone coming off the 40 man

Not faulting Greg. It was the Umps who gave him that ridiculous zone

True. Hummel, Leon, Gamel, and Corona are all there as candidates. Hummel is 29 and Gamel is 32, so maybe one of those guys.

So, I like the Neris move, assuming we are paying for him on the cheap. But don't be surprised if he's not as effective. FB is down 2-3 mph, and he's more hittable. Maybe we can get his velo up and get him going again.

Seeing the graphic on yesterday's game about Yordan being in the same company as Gehrig, Ruth, Mantle, etc. (which we have seen various interactions of throughout his career), got me thinking.

Do we try to extend him now? Tear up his contract and sign him to a new 10 year deal? Expensive, no doubt. But I would hate to see him walk when his deal is up, and he is tracking as a true all time great in the history of baseball.

through their age 27 seasons ted williams played in a hundred games more than yordan, after missing 3 seasons for ww2

You have him for 4 more years after this year. I don't think it's smart to commit money to an injury prone player that isn't hitting the market until age 32. Look at Trout, Pujols, Miggy. Absolutely legends. All took a turn when their natural prime ended.

He did start two seasons earlier. But the point still stands. Yordan has had injuries and doesn't give you warm and fuzzy feelings watching him move around in LF.

I know I know...Probably backed up by some stat I've never heard of, but I really don't get this sentiment.

He plays LF completely fine and actually has a pretty good arm.

He's one of the worst outfielders in baseball even with a decent arm. If you watch him move, he's not super athletic.

He's got the 3rd worst Jump in baseball. Pitiful reaction time. Little burst. But he runs decent routes.

Jake Meyers covers 3 more feet than the avg big league OFers. Yordan covers 3.6 feet less than the avg big league OFers.

415 players have played at least 200 innings in the field. Yordan ranks 336th in Fielding Run Value. Per stat cast, his range has cost the team 5 runs in the field, while his arm has saved 2 runs. If you shrink it to just LFers, he's 33/50.

My point is that he is in his athletic prime and can't play a decent LF. He's going to end up a full-time DH like Ortiz. That is fine with his out-of-this-world hitting. But let us not overcommit to him when there is no reason to yet.

Hopefully this new guy can't save their offense. Last time we need is the new guy becoming the next Phil Garner

The question is, are those -3 runs offset by the potential of getting another bat in the DH spot. Perhaps not strongly realized by this bat deficient roster, but I still argue that I would favor playing Yordan nearly everyday in LF at MMP to get another bat in the lineup. On the road, he should mostly DH.
