It was about 4 people over from me and one row up. My brother who was sitting to my right actually probably could've caught it if he had stood up on the bleachers.

It honestly looked like it would not even get to us off the bat, but it just kept carrying and carrying

Magical night! I laugh at all the bleeders early on the game thread. Have they not watched this team this year? Oh yeah, of course not.

Or even watched the team yesterday. Down 6-2 yesterday and won too

Pressly threw 25 pitches, a workload that got magnified Sunday when Houston's bullpen had to cover four innings of a two-run game. Abreu and Pressly pitched again. Within 17 pitches, Pressly gave away the two-run lead he inherited, inflating his ERA to 5.40 across 27 appearances.

"We're going to continue to rely on him," Espada said. "He's one of our guys. He's a big part of our bullpen. I believe in him. He has gotten big outs for us in the past, and he will."

I don't know what else Espada can say, or do. Press and Hader are what he has. Maybe you give Scott a few shots in a close 8th inning, but if that doesn't work you take a lot of criticism and turn right back around to Pressly.

Astros Future on X: "Since returning from the IL, Brice Matthews has played in 6 games and posted the following numbers: .500 BA (12-for-24), 2B, 5 HR, 8 RBI, 4 SB #Astros #Relentless https://t.co/W633oizczO" / X

He went 2-5 with another home run after this tweet as well.

I was told if he gets promoted to AA at any point this year his season would be considered a success. He's outperformed expectations so far.

Yeah been a weird year for him. He was garbage then went on the IL. Now he has completely turned it around. Not sure if they tweaked something with his swing or what.

Yeah, they attended his bullpen a few days ago but there were several other teams there as well. I never got the impression there was legitimate interest. It's funny how the only team that started to leak out was Houston... anything to make those damn cheaters look bad I guess.

The only surprising thing about the Super Regional was how poorly our pitchers did early in the games. Go look at their stats, Oregon pitchers had problems with lots of free passes all year long. Like Schloss said, we were confident enough to be patient and grind out ABs and make them pay when we had the chance.

getting caught up on yesterday's game...

the Astros just cannot get a sweep

and they need to get several to make up for the 4 sweeps suffered in the first month

I get Espada saying that to the public, but it's another thing to actually keep doing it. I'm just glad he didn't come out and say he's still the setup guy. I may be reading something into what was not spoken, but I choose to believe that Joe is not a complete idiot.

Regarding Pressly and this part of the article, I think the context provided by the surrounding paragraphs is needed. They question why Espada used Pressly on Saturday -- with a 5-run lead. Pressly wasn't needed on Saturday, and Espada used him anyway.

Here is the whole portion:

Abreu had not pitched since Tuesday. Using him Saturday to face the tying and go-ahead runs is wholly defensible. Using Pressly in the eighth inning after Houston scored twice in the top half and stretched its lead to five is far more curious.

Pressly is paid to execute without excuses, but it's difficult to separate Saturday's suspicious management from Sunday's implosion. Pressly wasn't guaranteed to pitch a scoreless eighth Sunday if Espada used someone else Saturday, though a rested reliever is generally more productive.

Finally saw the walk off HR from yesterday. Didn't realize how it went down. Yikes. Was enjoying a blissful night at Olsen… thanks Pressly and Cabbage

He's had 5 blown saves so far. He had 6 all of last season.

It's time to move him into a totally different role for a while. Move Abreu to the 8th and Montero to the 7th.

I believe Pressly has been at his best in recent years when he has an off day between appearances. I know he's very open behind the scenes about his usage and knows when he's at his best. I'm surprised Espada went to him yesterday.
MaxPower
How long do you want to ignore this user?
True. Montero is also a problem. His inability to go an inning Saturday in a blowout forced you to use the big 3. Espada probably still uses Pressly both days but he might have been able to rest him an extra day.

I wouldn't take Pressly out of his role necessarily but we need to avoid back to back as you said. It's clearly just a limitation he has at his age. If that means Abreu works the 8th on those days so be it. I just don't know who I trust to be the 7th inning guy in those situations. Taylor Scott maybe. Seth has twice as many walks as strikeouts since 5/1, so he's an implosion waiting to happen.

Jazz is not surprising. Plays for the Marlins, no postseason moments to speak of, and iirc he got the cover of the video game a few years ago. Correa is constantly hurt, and I think we can all agree that on the whole, Bregkan is more underwhelming as every year goes by

Probably both divisional rivals at 3B.

Pressly needs to be moved to middle relief until he can figure it out. Trotting him out in the 8th inning or leverage situations is definition of insanity right now

Am I the only one surprised we don't do matchup based bullpen decisions moreso than by default this guy gets the 8th, 9th, etc?

It feels like the team has reverted a little bit into old school thinking.
