Bregman hitting for Abreu and Dubon sliding over to first would have made too much sense. He is best when put in the lineup in advantageous positions. He's not an everyday player. But I agree he should play more often than he is at more positions.

The bust rate on big money guys seems like it's about 60%. One time injuries don't count, but off the top of my head, Semien and Seager, Gerrit Cole, Harper, Ohtani, Betts, Freeman and Altuve have panned out.
We aren't at or near the end of most of those contracts so we will see. If one of those guys falls off a cliff like Pujols did it could switch to a bust.
What's interesting is teams not using opt outs to their advantage. The Padres resigned Machado but should have let him walk. That original contract would have been great for them had they done that. Now the new one looks like a bust. If a guy opts out once he hits 30, just say thanks for your service.
