The real tragedy of the 1994 strike was we never got to see the AL West "race" play out.
When the season stopped, the Rangers were in first with a 52-62 record, with the A's hot on their heels at 51-63.

Seattle was right in there at 49-63, and the Angels, despite being TWENTY-ONE games under .500 (47-68) were 5.5 games out of first.

All four teams would have been in last place in the other two AL divisions. Detroit was 53-62 in the East, Milwaukee was 53-62 in the Central.

In the NL, only the Marlins (51-64), the Cubs (49-64), the Rockies (53-64), and the Padres (47-70) were worst than the Rangers, and 2 of those 4 were in their 2nd year of expansion.

The Rangers were first in the division despite a team ERA of 5.45, second-worst in the AL.

Surely he knows better than anybody that Bregman's issues have nothing to do with where hit hits in the order. Doesn't he know he fixed his mechanics a couple of weeks ago?

If you read Throwing Heat, Nolan Ryan's autobiography, he has a funny story in there about Pete Rose going for the all time hit record and striking out against Nolan in the last game before the strike started.

Don't think you need to do anything that drastic. With the latest rash of injuries, I just don't see the SP being enough this year. However, right now you just wait it out until July and see where you are in the standings and the health of McCullers and Garcia. You need Pressly, Chas, Framber and Bregman to work on their trade value anyway. If those 4 return to 2023 form it doesn't fix our main issue (SP) but they would have significant trade value. You should be able to restock the farm enough and free up some cash to resign Tucker and or go after an impact starter in free agency.

For now, we need to find a way to take 2 of the next 3 against the Mariners. With the AL West being so weak, it's going to come down to taking care of business in the division.

Your post is confusing. Are you competing for the division or are we sellers?

If it's TJ for Javier, I think you have to make a long-term move or multiple moves (short-term now and FA signing in the offseason). I was looking around at some options. The best I could come up with is Jesus Lazardo. Decent. Controllable until 2027. Marlins looking to deal.

A few less realistic options I would want - Garrett Crochet & Ryan Pepiot.

I always worry about Yordan being healthy, I figure every season he'll be lucky to play 130 games, and there's a decent chance that he'll miss substantial time. Over the last 3 seasons he's averaged missing 30 games a year, and his games have dropped each year. Yordan's contract is soon to get up to $26,000,000 and it'll be difficult to shoulder that if he's missing substantial time. Olson is locked in at 22mm per year for 5 more years with a team option and fills the lefty power bat gap left by Yordan, and he's only missed 6 games total in the last 3 seasons.

Austin Riley is also has a long term 22mm/year contract that runs through 2032 so your worries at what to do after Bregman at 3B are gone, and Riley has been in the top 10 MVP votes the last 3 years with 2 silver sluggers at a bat heavy position.

I think I'd take it, even without knowing about Yordan's or Bregman's slump. It makes sense from a payroll perspective; solves the black hole at 1B and solves the bregman 3B uncertainity.

With Espada and Dana making decisions I wouldn't be surprised if they put Kessinger at lead off. In all my years of following the Colt 45's and Astros the decisions being made this year are real head scratchers.

I'm saying you hold course for another month and a half before deciding anything. I expect we will be sellers but no reason to trade anyone now, both because we aren't out of it and the guys we would most likely trade aren't playing well.

I wouldn't mind getting Luzardo, just don't see where we have the firepower to do that unless the fish are for some reason enamored with Melton as a centerpiece. They aren't well run so anything is possible.

Because, at minimum, the players challenge is coming to MLB and it will make MLB look really bad if they have some of these guys calling balls and strikes. There will be actual, official documentation at that point. Manfred is trying to get ahead of it.

Now that I've gotten my snark out of the way, here's my problem with the whole move Bregman because where he hits in the order is affecting him a lot of you guys are making. Let's say he starts beating the hell out of the ball from the 6th spot. You guys don't want Espada to rush him back to the 4-spot. I've seen a couple of you guys on here wanting him to prove it for WEEKS.

If Bregman is mashing the ball at the 6th spot, this team doesn't have weeks for him to prove it. They need the Bregman before 2024 to be in the 4th spot. If he shows the 2024 self from the 6th spot over the course of a week, he's got to be moved up quickly.

I have no problem moving Bregman down because, given his OPS, he's hurting the team. If that's the argument, it's a valid one.

But, this whole he's not hitting because he's in the 4-spot is flat out silly.

Believe it or not, Jon Singleton has been our most effective 2 hole hitter.

Tucker has been our best 3 and 4-hole hitter, but he's already leading off so Alvarez gets 3 and Pena 4.

Bregman 5th

Since Bregman, Singleton, & Pena are already hitting that means Diaz 6th.

Cabbage backup for the 7-hole.

Jake 8th

Loperfido 9th

I disagree. Jake has the 2nd highest OPS on the team right now. He gets 3rd and Yordan gets 4th.

These are sincere questions. I know I was snarky in some previous posts.

Let's say Bregman has a good night at the plate tonight:

1) How long does he have to stay there to prove to you it's not a fluke?
2) Once he's proved to you it's not a fluke and showing some return to a pre-2024 form, are you moving him back to 4 at all or leaving him in the 5th spot?
3) Does this team need pre-2024 Bregman in the 4th spot given Pena's performance so far this year?
