Because the ump included all of eastern Washington and part of northern Idaho in the strike zone for our hitters after that rally.

(6 points higher than the next team...Phillies at .257)

but the 'stros only rank 15th in walks...and rank 4th in GiDP's

those 2 stats are cancelling out the high team batting average

I've watched every game and these stats are not the least bit surprising. You would hope that at some point our fortunes would change....

Not crazy at all that the team leading in BA doesn't walk much and hits into a lot of double plays.

the Red Sox were the only team to finish in the top 10 in MLB batting average...

that missed the playoffs

9 of the top 10 were in the postseason

While I agree hitters aren't being deployed properly.....even our top guys seem to struggle with RISP. I mean it's kind of to the point where if the 9 hole gets a lead off double I'd put money on us not scoring.....and that's with Altuve, Tucker, and Yordan coming up.

That said, our offense is not the problem. Despite our RISP woes, we're 11th in MLB in runs scored, 5th in the AL.

We hit for a high average and have the 4th highest SLG in MLB, but only rank 13th in ISO. We hit a lot of HR but not much else. We are 13th in doubles and tied for 25th in triples. We don't have great team speed (or steal bases) and rank 13th there but are as close to 10th as 24th.

What it boils down to is we get a lot of guys on with singles, and we don't/can't steal enough to stay out of the GIDP.

Fangraphs has a saberbetric tool called BsR which attempts to account for runs from baserunning runs above average. It combines Sb, CS, GIDP and other stuff. We are 27th and very negative.

So yes, we get on base a lot and do a crappy job of scoring runs.

I watched part of the game and saw the inning we scored 2 and then the next inning we threatened. Were there any other scoring chances outside those 2 innings?

If we don't score 5 runs we typically don't win unless it's against a bad team like the Athletics. I don't know how that compares to the rest of the league, but we've failed to score more than 2 runs in 4 of the last 9 games which I'll chalk up to cooling off after winning 8 of 9 games before this stretch.

Nope, we were getting no-hit before and went as meekly as possible in the three after.
