I don't get the angst of putting him at 1st base immediately to let him get used to it in real time.
1) he's played the position
2) It's not like 1B is super complicated to play like the other infield positions. About 99% of the time the play ends with catching the damn ball. It's just the nature of the position.
3) the decision should compare the relative favorability of our alternative CFs batting vs Singletons, against the value of giving him time to get ready for 1st base. That's an easy decision IMO.
