I didn't listen until the last inning. How do you guys think Julia did in the booth?

I just heard her homerun call of, "Say goodbye to that ball, y'all!" I mean, I've heard much worse.

I thought it was fun. Love our broadcast team but sometimes it's fun to shake it up over 162.

Id like to see her fill in a few more times. Better her than Bagwell

Ah. The last cycle must be tapering off finally.

Strong disagree here. I love Bagwell's stories and insight.

Just my two cents but I didn't think she was very good. Sounded very nervous and unnatural. She got better as the game went on which I'll give her credit for. Love Julia- but that's just my honest opinion. Hope she stays forever in her current role which she kicks ass at.

For it being her first time, I think she did well. I much preferred it to the players only j broadcast they tried to do last year which was a complete disaster (they were constantly talking over each other and barely anything related to the game). There are certainly women who do broadcasts much more regularly that are much less pleasant to listen to. It helped a lot that she knows the team well. I do hope she sticks around for the long haul in her current role though because all three of them have very good chemistry.

I didn't think it was great but purely because of inexperience. Dead time when there shouldn't be. Talking when there shouldn't. I do think she'd be good with experience.

Yeah when I say Julia did great last night I'm saying that taking into account that that was her first play by play experience. It was awkward at times with lots of dead air time, but being her first game in that chair I thought it went as well as can be expected.

I enjoyed listening to Julia last night more than I do listening to Jessica Mendoza.

It was fun and different and I'd love to see her do more. I loved it for Julia and her family. She really did seem grateful and thankful for the opportunity. Good stuff all around.

His voice puts me to sleep when he's the color guy. That was my main point. Julia at least has high energy and it's something different

1-3 inning Julia was terrible. Super nervous.

6-9 inning Julia was solid. I enjoyed her calls for big moments.

I think if she put the work in and got a shot she could do it a fairly high level.
I agree with this.

She's already better than Jessica Mendoza.
Could you set the bar any lower?

I think someone posted this yesterday but one thing I'm wondering on all this swing speed talk is what bats these guys are using. Altuve is known for using a very heavy bat, which no doubt impacts the speed of his swing.

Flipping it the other way on Abreu, who has a very fast swing, perhaps he should experiment with using a heavier bat? Theoretically that would allow him to have either a longer or wider bat, which would increase the sweet spot on the bat and give him more room for error when making contact.

Agreed. I can't imagine how hard that job is and PBP guys do that for years at every level from HS on up on radio before getting TV gigs.

The first 3 or 4 innings were combinations of dead air and awkward plays calling. She was trying to call the game and track plays in her book and I suspect she was overwhelmed. She lost the ball several times, which I think is completely natural given she's not used to seeing the ball flight from that vantage. Blummer did a good job of covering for her. It would have gone better if they swapped roles in the middle third like the radio guys do. Give her a chance to settle in and take in the big picture.

It got better the second half. I think she ditched trying to call the game and fill out a playbook at the same time.

I will say with 100% certainty she did better than I would have.

That really is gonna go down as one of the all time terrible takes in Texags history. The crazy thing is, that dork actually believes it.

If we had just avoided sweeps we would be 19-22 right now and battling for .500 this week. Those first 3 weeks loom large but hopefully we keep the hot streak going

11-6 for the rest of May will get us to 27-31. Keep winning around 60% of the games and we'll finish with 90 wins.

It would also get us over .500 by the end of June.

If we converted 6 of the 8 blown saves, we'd be at 24-19 right now and leading the division.

If we converted half of them, we'd be 22-21 -- tied with the Arlingtons for 2nd.

Let's keep the hot streak going. Things will level out.

It reminded me of my first time covering a HS football game. I had been in the Kyle Field press box probably 15 times working for the Batt and a few other SWC press boxes where they announce every play, yardage, tackle, and then gave you a printout of all plays and stats at the end of each quarter. A year later in 97 it's me down in clear lake for a non district opener and I'm sweating buckets trying to do my own play by play. And that was for a game that wound up 10-7 in OT.

When the Astros are playing like this, I can hardly wait for the next game to be played.

I wonder how the the boy feel. Wonder if they are chomping at the bit to get back out there after the success they've had the past week or so. As y'all said, they seem to be having more fun. Maybe things are finally clicking. Feels like they are rounding into form.

I'm glad because that is what good teams are supposed to do. Time to see what they do the rest of the way out.

The hardest thing I ever had to do was go from radio play by play to TV play by play. You would think it's an easy switch.. but man, it's entirely different. I got pulled aside afterwards and was told that about 80% of my words were unnecessary and to relax next time and remember people can see the action on TV. You don't have to describe everything.

I had it down pretty well after that... until I was assigned to call some random gymnastics meet on ESPN+ between two Big South teams. That was a nightmare.

It's definitely not easy and I'm by no means knocking on Julia with my previous comment. It just wasn't my cup of tea.
