The great news is he ended up in the NL and not NYY or BoSox.

Kirby (4.5) + Lorenzen (4.5) + Robertson (10) + Mahle (5.5) = 24.5 million in payroll for 2024

Monty = 25 mill in payroll for 2024
You have Mahle and Robertson flipped on salaires. But your point still stands - CY did solid here. AND Robertson and Mahle are also both under contract for 2025.

Sad to see him go but glad he went to a franchise he can win at that I don't hate.

Maybe we'll be talking to him again next offseason after some contracts come off the books.

I think those are correct.

Mahle gets $5.5 in '24 and $16.5 in '25. His CBT impact is $11M each yr, I believe.

Robertson gets $10M in '24 and $7M (m opt) in '25 with a $1.5M Buyout.

Yeah I think you're right. Getting confused by salary vs CBT hit.

Heaney for one I believe. Scherzer maybe as well?

Heaney, Scherzer, Robertson, Yates, Leclerc (club option), Lorenzen, janko, Urena.
DallasAg 94

Not as much as you'd think.

Scherzer: $12.2M ($43M with $30.8 paid by NYM)
A Heaney: $13.0M
JLeclerc: $ 6.25M
Lorenzen: $ 4.5M
Ki Yates: $ 4.5M
Jankowski: $1.7M
----------------
$41.95M

Eovaldi has a vesting player option.
Robertson has a mutual option with a $1.5M buyout

Also:
Seager decreases $2.5M
Mahle goes from $5.5M to $16.5M
Garcia goes from $4.75M to $9.25M

But, we project the following rotation in '25:
deGrom, Gray, Dunning, Mahle, Bradford, possibly Eovaldi

I think the Monty idea has sailed. I'd rather spend that money elsewhere. If Eovaldi vests and we have him in '25, we're looking for depth which could be Bradford again. Some of the young guys. Porter in maybe '25?!

If we can convert Walsh/Lowe, Taveras, and/or Heaney/Gray into a legit #1 SP prospect for '25/'26, it'd be nice.

Anyone know how to get their hands on last minute tickets for opening day for not outrageous prices??

Yep, the unknown is what players might be traded away and how much money that frees up. I don't worry about it much because it always seems to work itself out.

Don't remember if this was posted here, but apparently we're the most expensive opening day in the league this year by a long shot.

Scherzer should come back to us on the cheap. He doesn't need any money and we would be chasing a ring again. No need for him to move on to a New York or Boston.

At this point, best bet is to go out there and wait until close to first pitch, then buy online when someone gets desperate.

I'm not sure I would pay $19 to go to Guardians-A's

I like to track it because he makes the roster more strategic, to me. Gets me ahead of the trade deadline, etc.

I've thought that. He'll be 40 with $351M in earnings.

He moved his family to Texas, which made sense, since he took the Option for '24. He seems to really like the clubhouse. He is very competitive and wants to win. He'll be able to go wherever he wants for a good price and has had great success with Maddux.

Hey, if you are going to see two Dynasties meet on Opening Day... you're going to have to pay Dynasty prices. Those aren't cheap.

Really amazing to me that a player would let his agent overplay his hand like this. Dude could easily have has $100 million guaranteed. Instead, he's gonna get a fraction of that, take all the risks of being an MLB pitcher (one that has already had one TJ surgery), and hope he can get a massive deal next year when he's a year older. I don't get it at all

It's a shame the Rangers weren't the ones signing him to that fallback deal. Would have jumped on $25mill per year as long as it stayed at 3-4 years or less.

It was definitely a mis-calculation, but unless his arm suddenly falls off he's guaranteed $25m and a chance to retest the market next year or $50m and a chance to retest the market 2 years from now.

Left money on the table, but who knows -- it's possible he's a guy that wanted to bet on himself.

Well, he is a a guy with a previous TJ. He'll be 32-33 when the chance to negotiate that next deal comes up. And for these deals with aging players, teams are really paying for the earlier years and just hoping the later years aren't a completely awful deal. If you end up burning those prime years by signing 1-2 year deals, you miss out on jamming money into the back-end

I think that was ultimately what he was aiming to do - get that last big "in his prime" contract. It didn't happen so he rolled the dice on something next year or year after with a safety net of $50m.

I'm always astonished at the guys that are content with playing for a fourth place team, especially after experiencing a World Series winning run.

This also might be the third year in a row he plays for two different clubs.

Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's a standard size across MLB. Looks way better than that Oxy **** on the asstros uniforms

You could have said the same thing about Semien and Seager. Part of free agency is convincing players that with their help the team can be a winner.

Didn't we play the D-Backs in the World Series 4 months ago?

Monty might be pitching in the playoffs this season, but it won't be for the Dbacks
